Designing orbital maneuvers for space exploration. In this paper, we present a new technique to transfer a spacecraft (e.g. from the Earth to the Moon) and perform gravity assist maneuvers (e.g. a swing-by with the Moon) to increase its speed to visit other bodies in the Solar System. The technique is based on the Theory of Functional Connections.

Through the exploration of interplanetary space, via spacecraft and robotic spacecraft, various important information about the planets, moons, asteroids, and comets composition, structure, and their environmental phenomena have been discovered. The scientific and commercial rationales behind interplanetary space exploration are expansion of humans’ knowledge of the universe, discovery of new celestial bodies, planetary formation and evolution, search for signs of life, and preparation for future human space exploration activities.
