Ballina Climate Action Weekend, now in its third year, is a tactical weekend of meaningful climate action initiatives, aligned to and amplifying the work done at grass roots level in Ballina. 🌏 Led by the Mary Robinson Centre and Ballina Chamber of Commerce, the aim of the weekend is to showcase the great climate positive work taking place in Ballina and engage a wider audience in these initiatives to build awareness, scale and momentum in Ballina’s bid to become Ireland’s Greenest Town. ☘ This year’s Climate Action Weekend takes place on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th November, with support from Ballina 2023, CARO Atlantic Seaboard North and AIB. Key priorities for this year’s programme include highlighting funding opportunities for businesses and communities, and promoting responsible consumption and production via the circular economy. Reflections on the 7th Global Wave Conference (GWC) held in Portugal in early October. Our shared ocean and our love for it unites us. The attendees of the GWC are innovating new ways to increase public engagement, local stewardship, and on-the-ground conservation. My key take aways are that essential elements of success are people, power and pace. People: People power is what drives necessary change.  Power: Building political power through community action is essential for successful conservation. Pace: The important question is not if we will get it right, it’s whether we will get it right quickly enough.
