Following our last week post on the price competitivity between #SodiumIon cells and #LithiumIon #LFP here further information on the bill of materials for both chemistries. In collaboration with our technology partner PyroGenesis Canada Inc. / PyroGenèse Canada inc. the engineering design for our Fumed Silica Reactor (FSR) Pilot Plant project has been completed. This accomplishment marks a crucial step towards our goal of revolutionizing the production of commercial-grade Fumed Silica directly from quartz. The pilot plant is now transitioning into the assembly phase, with commissioning scheduled for Q2 2024. Regarding polysilicon prices, this week the mainstream transaction prices for P-type dense polysilicon ranged from 35 to 38 yuan/kg, while N-type silicon prices were between 39.5 and 43 yuan/kg. Overall, polysilicon prices tended to stabilize, with the market gradually entering a wait-and-see phase, awaiting new PV wafer prices. Additionally, new polysilicon capacity might be commissioned in September, providing additional supply. In terms of capacity and production, the production situation for PV wafers and solar cells is complex. In the PV wafer market, the mainstream transaction prices for P-type monocrystalline wafers (182mm) were between 1.1 and 1.2 yuan/piece, while N-type 18Xmm wafers were between 1.08 and 1.15 yuan/piece. However, due to sparse transactions, actual prices did not change significantly. Solar cell companies are facing pressure to slow production, with domestic solar cell production expected to decrease by 3.52% MoM in September, especially P-type cells down 14.33% and N-type cells down 1.54%. #polysilicon #wafer #ntype #PVwafer #metal #commodities

Towards High Performance in Automotive Lithium-Ion Batteries The research of Hiroyuki Kawaura and his team at TCRDL has been published in the Journal of Power Sources. Silicon is gaining attention as a new anode material for lithium-ion batteries due to its potential to offer about 10 times more capacity than graphite anodes. However, challenges like low conductivity and volume changes during charge/discharge cycles reduce battery life. They previously developed a method to produce porous silicon by using silicon-aluminum alloy powder and removing aluminum with acid. This helped control volume changes and extend battery life, but conductivity remained an issue. In this study, they improved conductivity by using transition metal silicide, made from silicon and transition metals. By dispersing silicide within the porous silicon, they successfully enhanced conductivity. This not only improves battery life and capacity but also boosts conductivity, contributing to high-performance lithium-ion batteries. https://lnkd.in/gVpPASxc
