Helping HR access the best workplace mental health training, which enables each employee to communicate with empathy, understanding, and self-awareness | Mental Health First Aid delivered differently.
It’s worrying that two-thirds of employees feel they can’t switch off from work, according to this recent report from People Management magazine/ This reflects a growing issue of burnout and a blurred work-life balance that many are facing in today’s always-on culture. But what does “switching off” really mean? 🤔 For some, it means fully disconnecting for a day or more. But for others – like myself – taking too much time off can actually disrupt momentum, drive and energy. Personally, I’ve found that micro-breaks work best. Short, intentional pauses allow me to recharge without losing focus, which is crucial for continuing to work and manage my condition. So when we talk about encouraging employees to switch off, we need to consider that one size doesn’t fit all. • Recognise diverse needs 🎯: Some thrive with full days off, others with shorter, regular breaks. • Encourage open dialogue 🗣️: Everyone should feel comfortable discussing what works best for them. • Create a balanced culture ⚖️: It’s about empowering employees to find the right balance for their personal wellbeing. What does “switching off” mean to you? How do you maintain balance? Let’s rethink what a healthy work-life balance looks like – for all of us. https://lnkd.in/eRxde86b

Chief People Officer & Co-Founder, Kustom HR | Fractional HR Consultant | Driving value for companies through human interaction, operational excellence & customized solutions
A 2022 Gallup report showed that 60% of workers are emotionally detached, with an additional 19% adding they were beyond miserable. This unrealistic idea of “balance” alludes to the notion that we can distribute our time and energy evenly between life and work, where we can achieve some unrealistic state of equality between the two. It just isn’t true or feasible. We don’t need to give ourselves one more thing to add to our “to-do” lists and try to balance two of the most unpredictable areas of life. We need support, flexibility, and time away to recharge and refocus on our professional and personal lives. Many organizations have gained positive results from offering flexible working hours, time off, and health and wellness programs. These initiatives have created productivity, innovation, and improved employee satisfaction. I’ve been saying this for a long time now - there is no such thing as work-life balance. We must learn how to integrate the two in manageable and beneficial ways. There is not one plan that can “fix” it for everyone. Each individual’s family is unique, their job situation is different. There is no universal answer for everyone. It’s up to us to find the pattern and rhythm that works best for our family and career. Find it, grow within it, and learn to enjoy each area of life that you get to call uniquely your own. #WorkLifeIntegration #PersonalGoals #TimeManagement

Here are some controversial takes about "work-life balance"... 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤-𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐯𝐬. 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤-𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 Some argue that striving for a perfect balance between work and personal life is unrealistic and that a more holistic approach, where work and personal life are integrated seamlessly, is more effective. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐲𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 "𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐭 𝐀𝐥𝐥" Controversially, some assert that the idea of "having it all" – a successful career, a happy family life, and personal fulfillment – is unattainable and sets unrealistic expectations for individuals, particularly women. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝟐𝟒/𝟕 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 There's debate around the expectation of being constantly available for work-related tasks, with some arguing that it leads to burnout and negatively impacts mental health, while others believe it's necessary for success in today's competitive environment. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤-𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 While technology has enabled flexibility and remote work, it's also been criticized for blurring the boundaries between work and personal life, making it harder for individuals to disconnect and truly relax outside of work hours. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 Some advocate for embracing a "hustle culture" where individuals prioritize work above all else, believing that relentless dedication is the key to success, while others argue that this mentality leads to burnout and neglect of other important aspects of life. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤-𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 Controversially, some argue that discussions around work-life balance often overlook gender disparities, with women disproportionately burdened by caregiving responsibilities and facing greater challenges in achieving balance in their professional and personal lives. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐅𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐀𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 While flexible work arrangements like remote work and flexible hours are often hailed as solutions for achieving better work-life balance, there's debate around whether they truly benefit all employees equally or exacerbate inequalities within the workforce. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤-𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 Some argue that employers have a responsibility to prioritize work-life balance and create supportive policies and cultures, while others believe it's ultimately up to individuals to manage their own work-life balance and that employers shouldn't be overly involved in employees' personal lives. https://lnkd.in/deKSTSTF Sometimes it is those taken-for-granted little things that would keep employees highly engaged / motivated / committed to strive to achieve the organization's strategic objectives. Though employment is the main source employees' livelihoods, employers must always acknowledge that employees have another life outside of the workplace. They have among others, family life, hobbies and other soul-fulfilling activities, like spiritual engagements, etc. So a too much work focused environment that disregard these things could ultimately lead to a disengaged / demoralised / demotivated workforce. A well structured work-life balance is always key to a productive work environment. This well thought out article sums it up nicely: "Making sure employees spend enough time living their lives outside of work is not only the humane thing to do, but it is part of prudent business decision-making. You don’t want people resenting their jobs because they feel they are taking up the vast majority of their waking lives. Implement a good work-life balance policy, and productivity will almost always increase".
