Researchers at the University of Calgary, led by Drs. Pietro Ravani and Ping Liu, have developed KDpredict, a digital tool that advances how medical professionals predict kidney failure and mortality risks in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. Utilizing data from nearly 100,000 patients, KDpredict offers more accurate risk evaluations, aiding in the formulation of effective treatment strategies. This tool also considers comorbid conditions such as diabetes and heart disease, supporting personalized patient care. #UCalgary researchers, led by Drs. Pietro Ravani, MD, PhD, and Ping Liu, PhD, are now able to predict kidney failure more accurately. A digital tool created by a team of University of Calgary scientists and international research partners is poised to become the new standard for predicting the risks of kidney failure and death in adults with moderate-to-severe kidney disease. The Kidney Foundation of Canada estimates that one in 10 Canadians have chronic kidney disease and the number of Canadians living with end-stage kidney disease is also increasing, up 35 per cent since 2009. Dr. Liu says the tool’s ability to more accurately predict the risk of kidney failure, and the likelihood of death from it, can improve treatment. Read the full story below. Why is point-of-care diagnosis crucial for neurodegenerative diseases? The lengthy and often misdiagnosed diagnosis phase hinders optimal care, leading to delayed treatment and disease progression. This not only impacts clinical outcomes and quality of life but also incurs substantial costs for patients, healthcare systems, and payers. Early and accurate diagnosis can make a world of difference! A diverse representation of patients in clinical trials is essential to help advance cardiovascular care and ensure diseases like #AtrialFibrillation (AFib) are more accurately understood and managed. In the Phase 3 Librexia program with Bristol Myers Squibb, our researchers are prioritizing inclusive patient enrollment across three indication-seeking studies in stroke, ACS and AFib to address potential gaps in knowledge and disparities in heart health outcomes. #AFibAwarenessMonth

It is an undeniable reality within the medical fraternity that Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) have emerged as the leading cause of mortality in India, accounting for a staggering 60% of all deaths. Cardiovascular diseases, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes contribute to 80% of these NCD-related fatalities. Notably, a disconcerting 62% of cardiovascular mortalities occur prematurely, underscoring the urgency for enhanced preventive interventions. Healthcare professionals are at the forefront of combating this multifaceted challenge, addressing both the preventive and curative aspects of NCD management. The concerted efforts encompass early detection strategies, patient education, and timely implementation of treatment. At Ai Health Highway, our unwavering commitment is to empower the medical community with cutting-edge solutions that aid in the earlier prediction and detection of heart disorders. Our AI-powered smart stethoscope, AiSteth, transcends the boundaries of traditional auscultation by providing visual representations of heart sounds, aiding diagnostic precision and facilitating prompt interventions. At ECTRIMS 2024, Melinda Magyari presented a study that analyzed mortality trends in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients in Denmark using Danish Multiple Sclerosis Registry data. It showed that patients with secondary progressive MS had a significantly higher mortality risk and lived about ten years shorter than primary progressive MS patients, emphasizing the need to focus on managing this stage of MS. 🔗 Read more about ECTRIMS 2024: https://lnkd.in/dW9Q-biP #ECTRIMS24 #MultipleSclerosis

【The Importance of Setting Treatment Goals for Cardiovascular Diseases】 Full article: https://lnkd.in/gVJmcT7W (Authored by David S. Schade, et al., from University of New Mexico Health Sciences, USA.) Guidelines are issued by most major organizations that focus on a specific disease entity. They are also an important method of conveying expert opinion to non-expert physicians in complex diseases. However, guidelines published by different medical specialties are often conflicting, thereby causing confusion to the practitioner. This work provides a suggested guideline outcome measure that would benefit the physician and patient. #Cardiovascular_Disease
