The Euro has already written some incredible stories; we have experienced many thrilling games, excellent goals, and teams which surprised everyone. Now we are waiting for the final on sunday. 🇪🇦 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 We at to/be sports were curious about the UEFA´s available money.  The total money available for this European Championship 2024 hosted by Germany is 331 million €, which is the exact same as it was at the delayed Euros of 2021. 💶 What does this mean for each team? Germany as an example got 9.25 million € already before they started as each of the 24 nations that participates in this tournament gets this. For each game they won they received 1 million €, and for each tie 0.5 million €. Germany won their first two games against Scottland and Hungary, which consequently got them 2 million €. Another 500,000€ for the tie against the Swiss National team. Advancing to the round of 16 comes with a price money of 1.5 million €. Therefore, after the group stage the DFB has earned a grand total of 13.25 million €. As we saw Germany beat Denmark in the round of 16 and received 1 million € for the win and another 2.5 million € for advancing to the quarter finals. If Germany would have won the Euro 2024, they would have received a grand total of 28.25 million €. Now we know the price money the team gets, but how does every nation handle premium internally? Germany for instance would have given every player 400,000€ for winning the euros, no matter how much they played. Consequently, the German football association would spend a grand total of 10.4 million € for the win of the euros. This is historic, as the association has never spent this much money before. For instance, for the World Cup win 2014 each player “just” received 300,000€. However, all the players receive knowingly a huge salary from their clubs. The span in the DFB-team is very big. The top earning players are Manuel Neuer, Toni Kroos, Joshua Kimmich, Thomas Müller, and Leroy Sane, all earning around 20 million € annualy. Whereas Bundesliga Champion and new german starter Robert Andrich reportetly just receives 870,000€ per year. Also in the lower earning players are new left -back Maximilian Mittelstädt, Maximilian Beier, Chris Führrich, and Robin Koch who each earn less than 2 million € per year. The Euro 2024 prize money structure provides substantial incentives for performance, significantly boosting team finances with each success. ⚽️Why is the Great Britain Football Team not participating in the Paris Olympics 2024? The absence of a Great Britain's football team at the Olympics is primarily due to the disagreement and lack of consensus among the four home nations (England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland). Here are the key reasons: ▶️Fear of precedent: Concerns exist that participating as a unified team could establish a precedent leading to similar arrangements in FIFA and UEFA competitions, where the home nations prefer to compete independently. (It's more of if they can compete as one in the Olympics, then they can also compete as one in UEFA and FIFA competitions).This would undermine the nation's individual status. ▶️Political differences : Each nation is keen on maintaining its individual identity and status, making the issue politically charged. ▶️Player Availability : Organizing a team involving four different football associations is complex and time-consuming. ‼️Looking back at the 2012 London Olympics, the decision to field a Great Britain men's football team was driven by factors such as the host nation advantage, Olympic spirit, and the understanding that it would be a one-time event without setting a precedent for future competitions(there was an assurance to this) . However,It did not even feature all nations, just England and Wales. Northern Ireland and Scotland opted not to participate. It was so complicated. (13 English players and 5 Welsh players participated ) ⚽️So why not perform as different nations, like they do in other international matches like the FIFA World Cup? 🅰️Reason is because FIFA, the governing body for football, recognizes England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland as separate nations, allowing them to compete independently. 🅱️However the International Olympic Committee (IOC),the governing body of the Olympics, on the other hand, typically recognizes countries,and not constituent nations.The UK is one country, which has 4 constituent nations (England,Wales,Scotland and Norhern Ireland). This means that only one Olympic Committee represents the entire UK at the Olympic Games. So UEFA has given green light to the new format proposed by Malta Premier League for the 24-25 season onwards. As you know, I don’t like this format and I think the flaws of the new competitions will overcome the strengths. Still, let’s wait till the official presentation to know all the details. In the article you can read about the future Winter Championship and Summer Championship. Two leagues in one, starting both from scratch. In terms of a league which lacks planning, scouting and sporting structures, adding more short term goals only will accentuate these problems. I guess the strongest argument to support this league is to have more meaningful games? My bet is that you will have less than with the more traditional formats. How important are UEFA Europa League's revenues to its participating clubs?   This week we analyzed UEL and dug into the magnitude of its revenues, excluding market pool and matchday revenues, compared to the sporting/financial size of these teams. With clubs from 21 European leagues participating, the revenues earned varied x3.9 from the lowest to highest earner, including the earlier qualifying rounds. However, the magnitude of these revenues vary much greatly when we consider the real impact on these different clubs:   - In the case of Qarabağ FK, the revenues would hypothetically cover an abismal 70% of its whole Market Value, followed by MOLDE FOTBALLKLUBB (57%) and Maccabi Haifa FC Haifa (53%), perhaps suggesting room for improvement in capitalizing their sporting operations and elevating their current squad level. - On the other hand, for Liverpool Football Club (1%), Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club (2%), AS Roma, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Stade Rennais F.C. or West Ham United FC (3%), these revenues have proven to be a smaller part of their financial dimension, which might have led them to strategically relegate this competition to a secondary plan and focus on domestic competitions until this point. - Regarding the expected places, the main surprise was Qarabag with 2 places above the expected, while the main disappointment would have been Real Betis Balompié and BK Häcken, ending 2 places below. - Additionally, it is worth highlighting the impact that revenues from this competition have in clubs from peripheral leagues, averaging 28% of their Market Value in the case of clubs from outside UEFA's top 7 leagues, which could lead to great imbalances. One of the key aspects to consider for clubs outside of the main leagues is what to do with the money they receive from European competitions, as it represents a clear booster in their finances. Having the right strategy and deciding wisely where to allocate that money is key to avoid overspending on transfer fees and salaries (they could afford more than before) instead tackling other investments that could be much more impactful in the future, like the youth Academy development. Interesting perspective related to #UEFA and the #ESL/#EuropeanSuperLeague proposal - we should protect the ‘European football pyramid’ against the greed and unsociable self-interest shaped by clubs that already have a solid power base and competitive position. Sporting merit, accumulated brand power over many years and global market mechanisms related to an existence in national football leagues and ecosystems as well as in #UEFA tournaments with more money over time (which have been an advantage for clubs at the top of the pyramid) are all ingredients reinforcing these top clubs. However, it doesn’t surprise me that the top clubs are seeking new and better revenue streams in a game influenced by money to an even higher extent today than 50 years ago - pressure on UEFA and the national federations is everywhere in this ‘money game’. UEFA Youth League: Background and implications for participant football clubs The UEFA Youth League is an annual European club football competition organized by UEFA since 2013. In its current format, it is contested by the youth teams of the clubs competing in the UEFA Champions League group stage, plus the domestic youth champions of the best-ranked national associations. The most successful teams are FC Barcelona and Chelsea Football Club, with two titles each. Chelsea won back-to-back titles in 2015 and 2016, while Barcelona won the inaugural season of the competition and clinched their second trophy in 2018. But what is interesting to see here is that clubs can make significant money on the transfer market with UEFA Youth League overperformers after first few years.
