Throwback to the launch of Škoda Ireland's We Love Cycling! 🚴♀️ Cycling is a massive part of ŠKODA's heritage; its history first started spinning back in 1895—with two wheels rather than four, and today, its commitment to cycling is bigger than ever, with an international website (called We Love Cycling) building a community worldwide. ŠKODA's deep-rooted cycling heritage found a new home in Ireland, but not without challenges. The brand, known more for cars, needed to connect with Irish cyclists. Our mission: launch an engaging online newsletter, build a local cycling community, and drive participation in events. We crafted a strategy with six content pillars, focusing on everything from safety tips to fun cycling activities. The highlight? Sharing Annette Callan’s inspiring story at 83, showcasing the community’s spirit in an emotive video. Within months, We Love Cycling Ireland gained 7,000+ Facebook followers, over 35,000 unique site views, and boosted brand awareness. Events like the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle saw 7,000 participants, proving our success. Shout out to the brilliant Škoda Ireland team spearheaded by Raymond Leddy for making this happen. Greater Cambridge is still the UK's leading city region for walking and cycling according to the latest #WalkingAndCyclingIndex. A new report published by charity Sustrans in partnership with Greater Cambridge Partnership delves into the active travel habits of residents and explores the benefits along with the measures needed to encourage more people to walk or cycle. In total over 155million walking, cycling and wheeling trips were made in the past year while 56% of people walk five days a week or more, and 45% of residents ride a bike at least once a week. Other findings include that 28% of residents want to drive less, yet 44% of residents often use a car because no other transport options are available. Has anyone ever successfully fashioned a bike trailer out of a pumpkin?   🎃 🎃 🎃   Like an allotment, campaigning movements start with a few seeds, nurtured by a small but determined bunch of gardeners.   Cardiff Cycle City is no exception, and it's interesting to see they are launching a new membership scheme as their next step in growing something even more fruitful. 🍎🌱   Leading a campaign can often feel like tending a garden with just one or two pairs of hands.   You have to sow the seeds, water the plants, and fend off the weeds.   Over time, you need more people to join in, bringing new ideas and energy to help the whole thing flourish.   Otherwise the only thing you harvest is a mud pie.   Transforming into a membership organisation brings Cardiff Cycle City the potential for healthy growth.   They're not inviting people just to sign up, they're inviting people to become part of the team, with their voices heard and talents put to good use.   Membership has the potential to grow a sense of communal ownership, a stake in shaping the future.   And without this kind of engagement, even the strongest leaders can just end up scrabbling in the dirt.   So, kudos to Gwenda Owen and Cardiff Cycle City for taking this step. £101 million investment to boost cycling and walking across England

As part of our 5-year strategy, Objective three is all about making cycling an even more positive experience for everyone. Our goal? To ensure cycling is safe, convenient, and fun for all. Whether you’re a parent on the school run, a road warrior enjoying rides with friends or cycling clubs, or an adventurer seeking off-road thrills, some of our major projects in this area include: 🚲 Building on our ground-breaking Big Bike Revival programme, which has achieved 50% participation rates from tens of thousands of women. ♿ Supporting thousands of disabled people to access cycling through the Inclusive Cycling Experience. 🏘️ Researching more deprived communities through grant distribution and delivery of activities in projects such as Community Cycle Clubs and the Cycle Access Fund. 🚴♀️ Building on campaigns that showcase and encourage diversity in cycling, like 100 Women in Cycling. 🏛️ Influencing national policies to make cycling more appealing and safer for a wider range of people. This is very exciting for Aussie Cycling and the wider Australian sport industry... why? The format : 5 events each event run over a weekend. Starting with a Friday night inner city Crit and then longer stage racing over the weekend. Also incorporating some of Australia's oldest road races. This maximises fan exposure and also support really effective content creation in short format for highlights and stories. (I am very excited about the evening Crit highlights) The real beauty of this is that it is easy for the Australian non-cycling public to understand and engage with. Because being honest cycling can often be a tricky sport to follow. Also keeping it short and ending in March removes competition with the big winter sports codes and the European cycling calendar, maximizing the potential for engagement. The timing : Starting January, coming off the hype of the Tour Down Under and the Cadel Evans Road Race, it is a good bridge into additional cycling events. (Plus Aussies love a Summer event 😉 🎾) The backing : From first reporting it looks like the big players in town are on board, namely Gerry Ryan which gives this a degree of certainty that it might not otherwise have. Also showing that it might be possible for private equity to be able to support events and sport within Australia. A key win for cycling The Confederation of the European Bicycle Industry - CONEBI is one of the main drivers of the key success of the signing of the European Declaration on Cycling by EU leaders.
