Yesterday I attended the Women Tech Council Innovation Summit and was honored to accept a 2024 Shatter List Award on behalf of Qualtrics. Women Tech Council always puts on thought-provoking, worthwhile events (you should go to all of them). Here's one of my powerful takeaways: Being an ally means: A: Amplify underrepresented voices. One easy way to do this is in meetings, when you want to emphasize or build on a point made by someone from an underrepresented group, simply state their name, their point, and what you want to build on. For example, "Joanne, you added an item to the agenda that I want to revisit..." Using their name and emphasizing their point draws attention to the person who might otherwise be overlooked. L: Live out loud. Especially as leaders, be transparent about the demands on your time and your personal priorities. In doing so, you normalize the unique responsibilities each person has. For example, don't just leave for a long lunch; tell your team on Slack, "Hey - I'll be out this afternoon for my kids' preschool performance." L: Lift as you rise. As you move up in the organization, look for opportunities to shine the spotlight and give opportunities to others. Use your new role and voice to also raise others. Y: Say, "Yes, I believe you" when someone from an underrepresented group expresses frustration, hurt, or feels overlooked. Lean into their concern and learn more. Starting January off on a high 🙌 There's noting better than giving women #toptips on getting ahead in tech and being recognised for their efforts 🙌 As our 16-week accelerator will soon be coming to an end, we spoke to our #womenintech cohort about writing an award winning nomination.... award season is upon us soon and we'd love to see our cohort get recognition for being superstar women in technology 🚀 Our Founder Rav Bumbra, who has been an awards judge for numerous awards for the last 5 years, ran a fantastic session that covered; ⭐ how awards make #rolemodels visible - inspires others to join in - attracts recruiters - accelerates careers 🌟 award winners have great stories - learn the art of storytelling - it takes judges on a journey and draws them in 🌟 understanding the gaps - accomplishments aren't just about the day role, they cover how someone advocates, sponsors and champions not just women, but the next generation of girls to take up space in tech. We did it! Last week marked a significant milestone for The Tech Sisterhood as my co-founder, Hannah Naomi F., and I SOLD OUT our first panel discussion event hosted by Shoreditch House. Last week marked the very first step of the #ConnectedWomenFoundation. : Our first board meeting with the most amazing women leaders and co-founders who are by our side : Anne Lauvergeon, Élisabeth Moreno, Florence Ropion, Liz Wiley, Mercedes Erra and Corine Busson-Benhammou. We thank them from the bottom of our heart for their vision, their strength, & the inspiration they generate. All together, no doubt, they will make it happen. In 2024, we find ourselves in a paradoxical era where technological advancement is rapidly progressing, yet #genderequality in the #tech & #innovation sectors remains a distant dream. Despite the undeniable talent & potential of women, they continue to be severely underrepresented, fading into obscurity as we ascend the leadership ladder. It's a disheartening reality : a glass ceiling still looms above, persisting & perpetuating an unjust status quo. At CWF, we refuse to accept this as the norm. Our mission is not just to challenge the status quo but to reshape it entirely. We envision an ecosystem where diversity isn't just acknowledged but celebrated, where every voice, regardless of gender, is given equal weight & opportunity to thrive. Only a 1/4 of attendees at major tech events worldwide are women, and a staggering 55% believe that men are more likely to represent their companies at such gatherings. These numbers are not just discouraging; they are a #calltoaction. Our Foundation stands at the forefront of this battle for inclusivity. We are deeply troubled by the alarming 2.1% decline in women holding tech-related positions in recent years. It's a regression that we cannot afford to ignore. That's why we're committed to breaking down barriers & opening doors for #womenintech.

On February 28, 1909, the first official National Women’s Day was celebrated in New York City. Two years later, more than a million people gathered in countries throughout Europe to celebrate International Women’s Day. The impact of those early demonstrations can’t be overstated. From access to the ballot box to equity in the workplace, the causes these women (and their allies) championed helped shape our democracy. Our economy. Our society. These causes, these essential rights, can't be taken for granted. International Women's Day goes beyond celebration; it's a commitment to further the cause of those early activists. It’s about understanding that true progress is rarely fast (or linear), never a given, and always a shared endeavor. Progress demands perseverance and collective action, a principle DeVry University has embraced through our Women+Tech Scholars Program launched on #IWD 2021. This initiative has helped lead to a notable shift in female enrollment in our College of Engineering and Information Sciences, from nearly 23% in the 2020-21 academic year to over 30% today, reflecting hundreds of women advancing their careers in tech. This shift isn't just a statistic; it signals a transformative change for the future. It underscores our collective responsibility to foster an environment where women in STEM and tech related fields are not just participants but leaders. By carrying this torch with pride, courage, and conviction, we not only honor the legacy of those who came before us but also pave the way for the next generation.
