After more than a decade of partnership with the National League for Nursing, we are proud to share the results of our collaborative work in providing structured mentoring for doctoral nursing students. NLN conducted focus groups with past NLN/Jonas Scholars and the data revealed two themes: 1) Being selected as a Scholar made students feel a sense of pride and that someone believed in them and their research. As one Scholar noted, "It really gave me an understanding that what I was planning to do for my project was seen as valuable to nursing education." 2) The mentoring support that Scholars received helped them to be successful in their future academic roles and was a valuable augmentation to their doctoral programs. Being a #JonasImpact Scholar also gave them a desire to mentor others and pass along the lessons they learned. We are honored to work with the National League for Nursing to invest in nurses seeking doctoral degrees who will address our nation's most pressing healthcare needs. Interensante debate disciplinar que debemos tener respecto del rol de los académicos no enfermeros/as dentro de las escuelas de enfermería. "That is not to say that there is no role for non-nurse faculty (NNF) in advancing our discipline. In fact, there is a long history of interdisciplinary collaboration that has benefitted the advancement of nursing as a professional practice and as a discipline and, conversely, where our practitioners and scholars have informed advancements in related fields. Yet it does raise an important question as NNF cannot generate knowledge that falls within the discipline of nursing."
An eye toward the future: Pressing questions for our discipline in today's academic and research climate

Many students ask me on social media which NCLEX resources they should use when studying for NCLEX. My best advice is this: Saunders, Kaplan, or Uworld. Students worry naturally when their peers use other resources like Archer. Here’s the thing: adapt your studying to the study resource that fits your learning style best. There’s no one size fits all. #nclex #nclexprep #onlinetutoring #saunders #kaplan #uworld UWorld Nursing Kaplan Nursing Elsevier Nursing & Health Education

Nationally, across the United States, the nursing workforce does not represent the populations it serves. The University of California Davis Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing has prioritized the recruitment, retention, and graduation of diverse groups of students who have the skill, knowledge, and desire to ameliorate health disparities and promote health care equity. Attracting a diverse student body begins with outreach and pathway programs. The school approaches admissions to its degree programs holistically. Graduating equity-minded nurses and health care providers requires dynamic student support and curriculum reform. Here, the authors address some of the challenges encountered in these efforts, including overcoming assumptions and implicit biases of those with decision-making power. The school has focused its health care equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts on pathway programs, holistic admissions processes, student success, and curriculum reform. The authors describe how academic institutions can start their own equity-driven nursing student programs: https://nej.md/48blctC

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, significant manpower changes (e.g., workforce migration) and advancements (e.g., transition to NGEMR) have reshaped the landscape of healthcare. Consequently, nursing students may encounter a distinct set of challenges as they begin their clinical education. As we endeavor to support and educate the upcoming generation of nurses, it becomes crucial to grasp the essence of the 'new normal' within clinical settings. In this study, our team Ying Lau Lau Lydia Han Shi Jocelyn Chew 邱涵詩, RN, PhD and Khairul used a distributed cognition qualitative perspective to examine final year nursing students' towards the new normal in clinical practice. While no singular new challenges emerged, our findings underscore the need to prioritize the enhancement of students' well-being during their transition from classrooms to hospitals. We would like to welcome like-minded individuals who are interested in curating psychological and physical wellbeing programs to connect and share their experiences :) Here is a link to the article: https://lnkd.in/gQYMZxqW
