Reflecting on Progress: 𝟳 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗹𝗹 June 14th was the seventh anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire, prompting a moment of reflection on the transformative changes within the construction industry since that tragic event. Over the years, our focus has centred on fostering responsibility and driving cultural change within our sector, advocating proactive measures ahead of governmental mandates. Post-Grenfell, the enactment of the Building Safety Act has been pivotal in reshaping our industry, demanding enhanced accountability and ethical standards. Key advancements include: ◾ Establishment of the Building Safety Regulator to oversee high-rise building safety. ◾ Introduction of Dutyholders and Accountable Persons, ensuring meticulous maintenance of comprehensive building information throughout its lifecycle. ◾ Implementation of Gateways Two and Three to validate compliant design and construction phases. ◾ Mandated regular inspections of fire safety systems, promoting enhanced safety for building occupants. ◾ Emphasis on resident engagement and clear fire safety protocols. Non-compliance now carries weightier penalties, underscoring the criticality of adherence to these vital regulations. As we commemorate this anniversary, let us continue to strive for a safer and more responsible built environment. Together, let's honour the memory of Grenfell through sustained commitment to these pivotal reforms.

Great to spend some time at the #FocusonFraming2024 event discussing key interlinked topics around the building safety act, construction products and building circularity. A number of Interesting emerging trends are starting to come into play as we see more detail around secondary legislation and how the sector is dealing with this. Key takeaways: - Material passporting, building circularity and potential conflicts with BSA requirements. - The Gateway process for high risk buildings will drive requirements for modern methods of construction and offsite manufacture. - The challenge and opportunity of capturing all of this golden thread information is massive and will require a significant cultural shift from the industry. #RLB #BuildingSafetyAct

Upcoming Webinar: Tuesday 5 March 12:30 - Kevin Blunden, Director of Building Consultancy, Acivico Group The devastating fire at Grenfell Tower in June 2017 has led to the largest review and reform of the regulation of building safety for over 60 years. The Building Safety Act 2022 associated Regulations and changes to the Building Act 1984 have established a new regime for the enforcement of Building Regulations and has created additional duties for all of those involved in the design, construction and management processes. In April the final changes to regulations and standards come into force which implement the most significant changes to the control of safety in buildings for decades. Alongside strengthened enforcement powers and sanctions for work which fail to meet standards, specific obligations are being placed on duty holders, including the Client, Principal Designer and Principal Contractor. All of those who are involved in the design and construction process, including Clients, Designers, Contractors and those who manage buildings will have significantly increased responsibility in respect of Building Safety, assessing competence and ensuring Building Regulation Compliance, and the webinar is intended to provide information to prepare everyone for their role in making buildings safer.
