Fact attack! 🎾The average U.S. corporate board is only 12% diverse. 😳That’s right, the average U.S. corporate board is 88% white. And yet: 🎾Ethnically diverse boards are 13% more profitable than boards that aren’t. Having a diverse board isn’t just the right thing to do, it's the profitable thing to do. Seems like a grand slam but there’s a learning curve. The proof is in the profits. E.L.F. BEAUTY has had 20 consecutive quarters of net sales growth and has a Board of Directors composed of 2/3 women and 1/3 diverse. We are 1 of only 5 public consumer companies that has grown for 20 straight quarters and averaged at least 20% sales growth per quarter. Join us in our mission to Change the Board Game as we work to create a more inclusive and equitable future for all. For more hard-hitting facts served by BJK herself, and info on how we're teaming up to bring more diversity to US corporate boards, go to: https://lnkd.in/gatQrB4F

Now that we're all back from summer and various other kinds of breaks, I’d like to share something semi-personal that I will work hard to find time to focus on over the coming months and into next year. In addition to my "day job," I also have the privilege of serving as co-chair of the Page Society in Switzerland. For those unfamiliar, Page is the world’s leading professional association for senior strategic communications and corporate affairs leaders, as well as educators. Our membership includes chief communications officers (CCOs) from Fortune-ranked global corporations, leaders from top nonprofits, CEOs of the world’s foremost public relations agencies, and esteemed academics from top business and communication schools. The mission of Page is to elevate the enterprise leadership role of the CCO. We aim to do this by upholding the highest professional standards and continuously advancing the understanding, practice, and teaching of communications. If you're interested in learning more about our regional and global programs or are curious about membership and how to get involved, feel free to reach out to me or my co-chair, Michael Willi. We'd also be happy to invite you to one of our upcoming events, whether in Switzerland or other key markets across Europe, Asia, or the Americas. In the meantime, here’s a sample of what’s coming up, including our 2024 Global Conference in Half Moon Bay near San Francisco in California, at the end of the month. #Communications #CorporateAffairs #ChiefCommunicationsOfficer #CCO #StrategicCommunications #EnterpriseLeadership #Role #PageSociety #ProfessionalAssociation #Membership

What Makes a Great Board Member? By Diane Cross, Fraser President & CEO I have had the privilege of serving on numerous boards throughout my career including the 35 years as CEO reporting to Fraser’s Operating Board. Over the years, I have learned what truly makes a board member great. In my experience, individuals who have direct lived experience with your organization’s mission, products, or services are always the best contributors! Personal experience brings with it an unrivaled passion for success. To these board members, what you do really matters. Great board members must also have professional skills and competencies, with expertise in human resources, IT, finance, marketing, etc. Specific operational knowledge of the industry also adds value. These broad skills are essential for balancing board perspectives. Individuals who see themselves as good stewards and partners of the CEO are also critical. Although you don’t want a “rubber stamp” board that always says “yes”, you cannot afford to have board members who are toxic. The role of a CEO is challenging enough without having board members who do not conduct themselves in a professional and caring manner. The staff in an organization feel this tension when it occurs, and it definitely affects morale. Finally, board members who represent diversity in its broadest definition will add value to decision-making. Robust discussions with differing points of view are necessary for boards to fully vet ideas and improve the organization. I belong to an organization called WBL (Women Business Leaders of the U.S. Health Care Industry Foundation). If you are looking for great board talent, go to their website at www.wbl.org!

It was an honor to be recognized for my board service by the Puget Sound Business Journal at their Directors of the Year awards last night. In accepting my award, I had the chance to share a little more about my interest in and commitment to DEI. While each of the organizations I advise has unique, industry-specific opportunities, a common denominator for each of them is the opportunity to foster cultures of growth and improve their performance by investing in diversity, equity, and inclusion. Companies that lead on DEI aren't just doing the right thing, they're setting themselves up for stronger financial performance, greater innovation, and the ability to connect with a more diverse customer base. As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, those that embrace diversity will be better positioned to thrive. https://lnkd.in/gX6MYYDa

And The Award Goes To 🏆 A great way to be noticed is by getting an award 🏆 or industry recognition. Not only do you get noticed, it helps establish you as an expert or leader in your field. No matter your business size 🏆 will boost your visibility. 🎗 Some awards you can nominate yourself for, and others need 3rd party to nominate you. 🎗 Carefully research which awards are relevant, both large (national) and small (local). 🎗 Give full attention to the requirements and deadlines. 🎗 Highlight your achievements, results, innovations, or impact you or your company have made. 🎗 When possible quantify your impact. Numbers add weight to your submission. 🎗 Get a testimonial from a client or respected member of the community. ▶ When you get that award promote the win across your social media and marketing channels. ▶ Consider a press release of your award to get further recognition. ▶ Add the organization logos to your website, email, packaging, storefront, etc. Transparency note: I have no affiliation with Carrie Charles, however, I wanted to highlight a recent award winner, give her the shout-out she deserves, and highlight the value of industry recognition. https://lnkd.in/eHBeRyGS

Founder & CEO of FAB (Female Advisory Board) - private member peer advisory boards aimed at empowering women to share and overcome business challenges though impartiality, learning, empathy & owning the solution.
Hard to articulate the profound impact Richard McCann had on the members of the Leeds Female Advisory Board this month... This incredible man has gone through so much in his lifetime, yet he has channeled all that grit and resilience into becoming a recognised, global motivational speaker. I'm a firm believer that we are products of the environment we create for ourselves and that our past doesn't dictate our future but allows us the opportunity to carve it the way we choose. It was an honour to welcome Richard, who ran a Presentation Skills workshop with the board. As leaders we all have to present the best version of ourselves, our authenticity and credibility and that can be quite daunting, especially when standing in front of a large audience or even a small one. It was fascinating to see just how, within a few hours, the members stood differently, maintained their posture differently, spoke differently, gave themselves time to pause and gained confidence within the session. I can't wait to welcome him back to the other groups and for anyone who doesn't know Richard's story - you will be blown away. #peeradvisorygroups #resilience #motivated
