You know that having a relationship with our Treaty is important, but you haven’t had to really think about it until the last year and now you’re wondering: How do I get up to speed? How do I understand why we have a situation in our country where Māori are very clear about what the treaty means to them and are holding strong as they have been for the last 180 years, but us non-Māori are still working it out, perhaps for the first time, what our treaty relationship is? How do I show my support for Māori? How do I get a clear understanding of where the Treaty sits within me and the community I am connected to? Gone are the days when we could turn away and not engage with our treaty. Māori are protesting the Fast Track consenting legislation. The Waitangi tribunal asked for the minister to come and speak to them about section 7AA before it was removed from the Oranga Tamariki policy. There has been a letter sent to the King, because his subjects are being unlawful. Māori have been standing strong on honouring their part in our treaty for nearly 200 years, and they are still doing it now. They are standing strong together with unity for their people for Tino Rangatiratanga. If you want to understand better, if you want to be able to show your support for our treaty and for what it means to Māori then keep following me. #cultural capability #cultural competence #cultural intelligence #leadership Kia ora, I’m Lisa Heald. I help you to ‘cross the chasm’, turning cultural competence into capability. Walk with me to inspire and enable others to build strong cultures that respect our peoples.

On 1 June 1945 in the last session of general assembly for preparing the independence of Indonesia, Sukarno, a prominent nationalist figure who later become the first president, in his passionate speech introduced five principles that suggested to be the philosophical basis of the independent republic. Members of the forum represented by people coming from across the former Dutch Indies, accepted those principles as "Pancasila" which ever since has become the foundation of the Republic of Indonesia. #Pancasila. #HariLahirPancasila, #Sukarno, #Indonesia, #Independence, #IDSAttorneys

Today is my favorite Indonesian holiday - Pancasila Day. We are remembering the five principles of the philosophical foundation that the Indonesian state was built on: 1. Belief in the divinity of God 2. Just and civilized humanity 3. The unity of Indonesia 4. Democracy guided by the inner wisdom in the unanimity arising out of deliberations amongst representatives 5. Social justice for all of the people of Indonesia. On June 1st, 1945, Bapak Soekarno mentioned these principles and the word pancasila in his speech. Subsequently they were further refined and ultimately reflected in the constitution of the (then) young nation established in uncertain times post world war and colonialization. These principles remain powerful until today, because they not only reflect but continue to guide Indonesia as multi-ethnic, multi-religious, geographically vast, democratic country that I am blessed to call my home. #Pancasiladay #Indonesia

David has failed to articulate what harm pākehā experience when we honour the historically accurate reality that Te Tiriti is a treaty signed beteeen two people's. When pressed on the matter he points to examples of where corporations or the crown are obligated to consult with hapu and iwi (often in relation to issues that impact on māori). Of course he fails to acknowledge that though the crown and corporations may consult, they are rarely obligated to actually listen. He also neglects to highlight that such consultation is neccasary because, when we view ourselves as simply a group of individuals (while failing to acknowledge the beauty and diversity within the communities and cultures we all come from) history bears witness that the group and those individuals, are inadvertantly defined as middle class and pākehā. In contrast to the percieved harm that David speaks of, this has of course resulted in actual harm being perpetuated against māori as decisions have been made which deny māori their rights, and systems built which fail to serve - and at times actively work against - māori. The results are evident, we only have to look at any negative stat in this country to see the manner in which māori are disprotionately harmed as a result of the Crowns breach of Te Tiriti. Te Tiriti lays the foundation for true equity and eqaulity in Aotearoa. Rather than being opposed to universal human rights, Te Tirti protects and upholds them. Honouring Te Tiriti does no harm to pākehā. We have nothing to fear from upholding the promises of our tupuna. #toitūtetiriti #LoveIsTheWay #ToitūTeTiriti #tetiritijustice #tetiritiowaitangi

Pancasila is Indonesia’s official state philosophy, consisting of five principles. Pancasila (pronounced pancasila) is a Sanskrit expression meaning “five pillars.”63 These five foundational principles are as follows: 1. Belief in the one and only God. 2. A just and civilized humanity. 3. The unity of Indonesia. 4. Democracy, led by the wisdom of the representatives of the people. 5. Social justice for all Indonesian people. Pancasila is important for Indonesia, as it unites all religions, races, ethnicities, and culture through its overarching principles.

💡 The Indonesian democracy may change once Prabowo is president — but we need to look at the bigger picture💡 The electoral victory of the ex-general-turned-cuddly-populist Prabowo Subianto on 20 March marks the continuation of illiberal democracy in Indonesia. However, the moral panic that followed the announcement of his presidency may be exaggerated, writes Iqra Anugrah, who argues for a more nuanced analysis of Indonesia’s current and future political trajectory. The dangers for democracy posed by Prabowo’s impending rule is just a symptom of the larger problem of oligarchic rule in the Global South. When negotiations at WIPO on traditional knowledge and cultural expressions resume in early December, it will have been almost 18 months since negotiators last met on these topics 😲 👏🏼 Since then of course, a landmark Treaty on genetic resources and associated TK has been adopted 👏🏼 🙋🏽♀️ But, on policy and technical issues around the protection of TK more broadly and TCEs, negotiators may be a little rusty. 🆕 And, perhaps the 18 month break offers opportunities for a fresh start – for new perspectives on objectives and for innovative ideas on the methodology of the negotiations. With this in mind, I thought I would make available an article on the negotiations so far, with the kind permission of the publishers. The article is based on a conference paper I presented in India in 2023 and which was subsequently published by the CSIR-NIScPR in India 👇🏼 Meeting page for the next round of the negotiations at WIPO on TK/TCEs: https://lnkd.in/eWQ3VMDB ☺ (As the article was prepared in late 2023, it is a bit dated in so far as the Diplomatic Conference for the new Treaty goes). Pancasila Day, though not a public holiday, is a day of peringatan (“commemoration” ) for the Lima Asas Pancasila (“Five Principles of Pancasila” ). These principles are the cornerstone of Indonesian government and society, and they are: 1. Belief in the One True God 2. A just and civilized humanity 3. The unity of all Indonesians 4. Democracy under the wisdom of a popular collective of representatives 5. Social justice for all Indonesian people These are the principles that were laid down by Indonesia’s first president, Sukarno, in 1945, right before the country gained its freedom and independence. This ideologi (“ideology” ) was a way of ensuring kerukunan (“harmony” ) amongst the diverse groups of people all throughout Indonesia. The thread of monotheism that runs through the Five Principles of Pancasila helped maintain greater peace amongst Christians and Muslims, and the other four principles promised equal rights and representation for all Indonesians. On Pancasila Day, Indonesians are encouraged to commemorate and reflect on their dasar negara (“national principle” ).
