We need your urgent action now to help fund the gap! Did you know that Illinois is ranked 49th in the nation in its funding commitment for community-based services for people with disabilities?! Please help fund the gap now at www.LittleCity.org/Gap for the people with disabilities who call Little City home! Despite the support from the state for those we serve, there is no new funding that will change that ranking in the current Illinois budget - making it significantly more challenging to provide the vital programs and services the people with disabilities need and deserve. So, we are asking for your URGENT help - #1 SHARE this message to help spread awareness about this significant funding gap. #2 DONATE now to help fund the gap! Every dollar - $25, $50, $100 - enables us to provide a community and comprehensive scope of services that are not currently funded for people with disabilities at Little City! Help fund the gap now at www.LittleCity.org/Gap

In 1938, Congress created the Wagner-O’Day Act, which enabled nonprofits that served people who were blind to sell products to the federal government. The Act was amended in 1971 to include people with other significant disabilities. This expanded Javits-Wagner-O’Day (JWOD) Act serves as the basis for the federal AbilityOne Program. 📢 Support independent living for people with intellectual disabilities! After the loss of their parents, many individuals with intellectual disabilities face unsafe and dire living conditions. Anglicare’s Rental Affordability Snapshot (April 2023) revealed a harsh reality: only 0.1% of over 45,000 rental listings were affordable for those on the Disability Support Pension. In Canberra, not a single property was suitable. These vulnerable individuals deserve the dignity of independent living. Our initiative aims to provide just that, but we need your help. Your tax-deductible donation can make a significant impact. Another great story where innovation leads to a better life for one person AND the experience can be replicated for more people too. I'm looking for people who think like me... I'm an idea person; I see where a simple change could lead to a higher value - who do I contact? One of my passions is called "Carl's Idea Hatchery, Logo Lab, and Business Incubator". My passion is helping where I can so it's very common for me to refer people to others who can help them more, whether it's protecting an invention from predatory investors or finding enough space in a garage to innovate and build something like the next Apple computer. If anyone from the #WeCarryKevan organization reaches out, my idea is yours for 1% of the value it adds, payable ONLY AFTER the idea pays for the cost of its development and implementation. (very low cost and I will help. I am a frequent volunteer.)

“Hi, My name is Kevan Chandler. I am 35 years old and live in Fort Wayne, IN, with my beautiful wife, Katie. I was born with a disease called spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), which weakens my muscles so that I can’t walk. I usually use a wheelchair to get around, but I have also found that my best resource for accessibility is friendship. In 2015, I asked a few dear friends to help me realize a lifelong dream to travel to Europe. They all eagerly got on board to make it happen. We started a campaign called “We Carry Kevan” to raise money for our adventure. We also adapted a kid carrier backpack so the guys could carry me where my wheelchair couldn’t go… which was most of the places we were planning to visit! After this amazing experience, I wanted to help others redefine accessibility in their own lives like my friends and I had done. So “We Carry Kevan” became an officially incorporated non-profit organization, to provide more specialized backpacks and ongoing supportive care to families with disabilities all over the world. I took another big trip with my friends in 2018, this time to China. We saw some unbelievable things and even walked on the Great Wall. We also visited care centres for children with disabilities and got to share backpacks and the message of hope.

Board of Director Chairperson "CLCL Foundation" -- Choose love. Celebrate life. A Foundation for Youth & Families, Inc.
I am asking for your help, please. 339 days... (#AndCounting) without Safe harbor for youth. This further hurts the most vulnerable demographics (impoverished, traumatized, mentally unwell, women/girls, people of color, LGBT and gender-nonconforming, disabled, mentally unwell, orphaned, throwaways...) It denies them basic needs, #mentalhealth services, and the opportunity to change the #trajectory of their lives. When I ran at 17, the #shelter provided more than a roof, bed, and food. It encouraged self-reflection, held me accountable for growth, and never stopped being available. Any former client could visit, and then did! They came to talk to staff (which I was 3 times), reminisce, share good news or bad, seek advice, guidance, resources... Because most of the youth had no parent or adult in their lives to guide them or for them to show off to and boast about accomplishments otherwise unseen and uncelebrated. It leaves little room to develop pride, self-esteem and -confidence. They came back when they needed to go #Home. The help never ended. Because help is always there, when we look for it, when we actively seek it out. I am asking for #YOURHELP NOW: For your time, your money, your involvement as CLCL Foundation seeks to expand the movement to #ENDYouthHomelessness with innovative ideas, community-based approaches, trauma-informed services, that are inclusive and accessible to all in need. Because this problem is not unique to Ocean and Monmouth Counties, #NJ. It is a #NationalCrisis, an #Epidemic, and our actions CAN BE the remedy. If we act together -- WE could #ChangetheWorld. CLCL Foundation seeks to provide these innovative solution-based services. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Choose love. Celebrate life. seeks to be A Foundation for Youth and Families, both now and in the future. JOIN US! Persons with disabilities should be given a chance to lead since they have the lived experience of disability and are the ones being stigmatized. You can support to make this a reality by donating to our appeal here-->https://lnkd.in/gRZKwKp8. #UnlockingChange #DisabilityJustice Image quote: Giving a chance to persons with disabilities to lead by giving them the power to decide on the projects to implement and how to implement will help in ensuring that the actual challenges faced by them are addressed.
