We recently unearthed a 1974 newsreel that captures the excitement of the Dorothy Rose Horticulture Center’s opening—then known as the “Florarium”—and it’s the perfect way to commemorate our 50th anniversary celebration! What began as a seed of an idea in 1974 has blossomed into a thriving center where individuals cultivate not only flowers and produce but also lifelong skills and passions. Thank you for celebrating five decades of growth, opportunity, and beauty with us! 🌸🍅🌱

This Saturday, we welcomed the community, residents, and families for a day of fun, food, and history as we celebrated one of Little City’s longest-running programs. Guests enjoyed treats from Taqueria Maya , Kona Ice, and Kilwin's Elmhurst, along with drinks from our Can-Do Coffee Cart and Lemonade stand. ☕🍧 In the A-Frame, visitors explored the history of our Horticulture program, including a special 1974 news reel featuring early participants like Jerry Rose.  Little City CEO Rich Bobby honored Horticulture Manager Wayne Johnson and Specialist Jackie Kenyon for their dedication. “This amazing program wouldn’t be possible without Wayne and Jackie,” Rich said. 🌿👏 Lucky guests also won raffle prizes, including packages from the Horticulture program, Center for the Arts, and Goebbert’s Farm. Thanks to everyone who made this celebration a success! 🎉💚
