I started writing a comment to Moriya Rockman's post and then realized it's worth a proper repost! She posed an important question: How do you balance family time with work to ensure you have a successful summer? I don't know if a post is enough to cover this, we probably need to start a podcast or at least a support group 😂, but I'll do my best to respond. I think before we answer the 'HOW' you do it (which I will), you need to really understand the 'WHY' you do it - and the answer to that is because it's the best thing you can possibly do for your kids, your family, your sanity, your creative process, your career and your company! Now, to the HOW: As a founder (of multiple companies over the past 10 years) I've been unable, for as long as I can remember, to take a real vacation and just go offline for more than a few days. What I am able to do, however, is take advantage of the limitless opportunities that remote work can offer: 1. You can still travel! For the past 3 years, I've spent two months each winter working remote from a summer destination (Costa Rica and Roatan in Honduras), giving my kids the experience of attending an international school in a foreign country, being exposed to new cultures, people and languages, and most importantly, running on beaches and chasing iguanas instead of struggling to zip up their snowsuits over four layers of clothing while trying to avoid frostbite. 2. Summer cottage getaways - work remote from a cottage, preferably joining forces with badass executive and entrepreneur friends (Reut Maimon, Sarah Silverstein 💪🏼🦸🏻♀️). You put all the kids in a bike camp, so they're having the time of their lives, while you actually get to be super focused and productive, with a lake in the background, drinking your morning coffee by the dock, and using your 15-20 min refocus breaks to take the paddle board out on the water. Then the evenings are all yours to enjoy as a family, and they're priceless! which leads me to the last point.. 3. Summer evenings are the best. I'll be the first to admit that early bedtime goes out the window when the weather is energizing and you're trying to take full advantage of the summer. I try to step away from the day-to-day cycle and still plan fun evening activities - drive to a nearby lake, backyard dinner with friends, watch the sunset (even if it's at 9pm..) One critical disclaimer is that you really can't do it all. You'll still sometimes need to choose whether to skip a bedtime story or be late to respond to some important emails; whether to turn on the TV for the third time (without feeling guilty) or postpone releasing a report, finalizing a budget or finishing some tickets that you're a bottleneck for.. at the end of the day, it's a balancing act and I wouldn't have it any other way ☀️❤️ How about you? What balancing tricks do you keep up your sleeve? #worklifebalance FTW 💪🏼

#Vacationplanning #Trip #Financingyourvacation #Summertrip #Adventuretrip #Familyvacation #Favouritedestination #Vacationdestination #Destination #Outing #Costofvacation How do you plan to finance your vacations? As summer sets in, many of us plan to take vacations. I'm curious to know about your vacation plan from a financial point of view. >Do you plan a year before for vacations? 😀 >How do you save money for your vacations? 😃 >Do you use a credit card or loan to take a vacation each year? If yes, how many EMIs would you prefer to repay the loan amount? 😆 >What portion of money do you spend on shopping? Like 10%, 15% or 25%, and so on. 🙂 >Have your previous trips gone according to your budget? 😛 >What percentage of your earnings do you spend on vacations? 😁 >Which is your favorite vacation destination? And why? 😃 >Do you share your vacation cost with your partner or friends? 😋 >Have you done any investment or recurring savings for future vacations? 😉 >I want to know to plan my future vacations. It's not a survey, but I want to learn from your experiences. 😎 I'm also writing a post on planning a vacation from a financial point of view on my substack newsletter this Saturday. Feel free to share your input or add any other ideas you have. 😎

Thank goodness for the upcoming summer and vacation time!! Ever been told HOW to take a vacation? Here are a few tips from a WSJ article (link for the details: https://bit.ly/4dUFydX) 1. Spend less time obsessing and planning up front, looking at every possible option. You're setting yourself up for regret. Ignorance is bliss. 2. Take a break from enjoying yourself. Don't spend an entire day doing one thing (eg at the beach) and instead break it up or don't do anything. Finish the activity on a "high note" rather than waiting it out with falling enjoyment. 3. Force yourself to do something uncomfortable. Psychologically, this is to make you enjoy the "good" parts more. Like leave the phone behind and get lost wandering an area. #capitisadvisors #fractionalCFO #CFO #smallbusinesses #finance #budgetyourbusinesspodcast

Why does it matter where you're going? What's the point of defining a destination? You don't get in the car for a vacation and look at your family and say "welp, where are we headed, kids?" You don't start driving down the street randomly for 6 hours and then pull over and exclaim "this is where we'll spend our vacation!" So why do you do it with your life? With your business? With your family? Why are you SO PARTICULAR about planning a vacation, and simply a mess about everything else? For a trip you plan: When you'll leave How you'll get there What you'll take What you'll do Who you'll see What you won't do How much you'll spend How long you'll be gone Who will take care of things at home... And for the rest of life you're like "meh, it'll all work out" I dare you to have that "meh, it'll all work out" plan for your next vacation. See how it works out. A vision gives you a sense of direction. It gives you a plan. It offers a standard and expectations. It's not a crystal ball, but it's at least a design you can try to follow. What's amazing about this is that you ALREADY know how to do it. It's not really a skill you have to learn. You just have to prioritize the time to do it.... LIKE YOU DO FOR YOUR VACATIONS. Start where you are, build as best you can, tweak as you go. #executivecoaching #anticomfort #workingparents
