Well done to Barnsley College, T3 Training & Development and my colleagues at Laing O'Rourke for reaching this point. A UK first and not a moment too soon ! This dedicated facility will provide training and skilling in Modern Methods of Construction and will prepare a generation of technicians for rewarding, productive and healthy jobs. As we know, the UK government growth mission, as set out in #invest2035 will place enormous demand on our industry. Across Department for Business and Trade and HM Revenue & Customs consultations and enquiries are currently underway seeking to understand the scale of the skills shortfall and potential solutions. This today is a brilliant example of how business and academia are investing to ensure the skills threat is turned to an opportunity. Modern, agile skills that can respond across the growth sectors and far more productively than ever before. The conclusion of the industrial strategy #invest2035 is seeking to identify the races to back and not the winners. The race to transform our industry has surely got to be the most compelling, if we want to deliver growth, health and dispersed prosperity. Schemes such as Sizewell C, New Hospital Programme, HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd and many more will provide the long term jobs for our technicians of the future.

The Ontario government is investing over $26 million to build a new training centre at LiUNA 183's skilled trades training campus in Vaughan. This investment comes from the province's new $224 million Skills Development Fund (SDF) Capital Stream, which was announced by Premier Doug Ford in June 2023 and which will support the training of more than one million workers across Ontario. With this new training centre, LiUNA 183 will be able to train nearly 50,000 additional new workers, doubling their current training capacity to almost 100,000 workers, for in-demand careers in construction across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), such as bricklaying, heavy equipment operators and concrete finishing. . . . . . . . . . . . #ConstructionNews #ConstructionInsights #BuildingTrends #ConstructionIndustry #ConstructionUpdates #InfrastructureNews #ConstructionGrowth #IndustryInsights #ConstructionTech #SustainableConstruction #BuildingInnovation

The number of people working in construction in the UK is falling, and without adequate training and sustainable recruitment and development efforts, the industry could be in danger 👷♂️ At the end of 2023, there were approximately 2.12 million people employed in the construction sector in the UK, but fewer people are choosing hands-on construction careers as traditional university courses are being put first. That's why Cre8tive Space is proud to be a member of the Construction Industry Training Board where businesses come together to help the construction industry, attract talent and to support skills development, in the ongoing effort to build a better Britain. With the support of CITB we can provide training and development opportunities to budding construction whizzes to do our part in empowering and improving the industry to keep people creating and building, and allowing new voices to bring innovation into the sector. If you or your business think you could benefit from CITB's brilliant resources and expertise, you can find out more by clicking the image link below. #traininganddevelopment #constructionindustry #emplymentopportunities

The courses in conjunction with the Department for Education (DfE) are designed for people looking to join the construction sector or existing groundworkers looking to move into a supervisor role and enhance their skills. Careys will be hosting the courses at its Construction Campus but they are open to candidates from other contractors and all potential new recruits to the industry. Funding will be provided by the DfE on a sliding scale depending on circumstances. Careys Head of Resourcing, Social Value and Early Talent, Maddy Donaghy, said: “Construction is suffering from a shortage of skilled workers – over 250,000 extra workers will be required to meet UK construction output by 2028. Over 50,000 additional workers are required per year. “The Construction Skills Bootcamp provides an excellent opportunity to develop a career as a groundworker, or for existing groundworkers looking to move into a supervisor role, and enhance their skills and develop a career, either at Careys or with another company in the industry.” Two courses will available for general operatives and construction supervisors

NFB Puts Skills On Parliamentary Agenda The National Federation of Builders (NFB) put the spotlight on skills yesterday, when it hosted its members at the Houses of Parliament for a reception focused on ensuring the provision of quality support and improving access to training and talent are identified as top policy priorities. In a room full of a experts from all corners of the industry, from housebuilders and contractors to scaffolders and trainers, members were addressed by the Secretary of State for Education and Skills, the Rt Hon Gillian Keegan, MP. She commented, “I know that the construction industry has serious skills challenges and I know how important it is to educate people who take an out of date, short term, view about the careers offered by your sector. I understand that it (construction) offers great opportunities here and around the world. We need to make sure it is showcased in schools so that young people can see what’s available to them. I welcome the work that the NASC and NFB are doing to highlight how dynamic and rewarding construction can be.” This reception was held as part of a joint initiative with the NASC - National Access and Scaffolding Confederation. Mark Wakeford, incoming Chair of the NFB, stated, “The reception highlighted the need for more skilled people within our two essential and allied sectors, and allowed us to make our case for a coordinated approach across Government to work with industry to enable access to our sector and to support professionalisation. https://lnkd.in/e8jch2eg
