What Does Memorial Day Mean to You? As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, it's important to pause and reflect on the true significance of this day. Memorial Day is more than just a long weekend or the unofficial start of summer—it's a solemn occasion to honor the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Reflect and Remember: Honor the Fallen: Take a moment to remember those who have given their lives in service to our nation. Their courage and dedication have protected the freedoms we often take for granted. Personal Stories: Think about the stories of soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines who have left behind families, friends, and communities. Their legacies live on in the hearts of those who knew them. Community Impact: Consider the impact these sacrifices have had on your community and the country as a whole. How has their service shaped the world we live in today? How Can We Give Back? Support Veterans and Families: Look for ways to support the families of fallen soldiers and the veterans who continue to serve our country. Whether through donations, volunteering, or simply offering a kind word, every action counts. Educate the Next Generation: Share the importance of Memorial Day with younger generations. Teach them about the history and significance of this day, ensuring that the memories of those who served are never forgotten. Participate in Memorial Events: Attend local Memorial Day parades, and ceremonies, or visit a veterans' cemetery. These acts of remembrance are vital in keeping the spirit of the day alive. As we enjoy the hard-won freedoms, let's remember the sacrifices that made them possible. Today, we honor the memory of those who gave everything for the country they loved. Their legacy is our freedom. What does Memorial Day mean to you? How do you honor those who have sacrificed for our nation? Share your thoughts and stories in the comments below.

As we conclude our Memorial Day celebrations, I hope everyone took the time to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Though often seen as the start of summer, Memorial Day carries a deeper meaning that we should hold close. First and foremost, it is a day of remembrance. It's a significant opportunity for us to pay our respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Whether you have family members who served or simply want to show your appreciation, taking a moment of silence or visiting a local memorial can be a powerful way to honor their legacy. Our freedoms are safeguarded by the selflessness of these heroes, and we must always remember that. Gratitude is another key aspect of Memorial Day. It’s crucial to show our appreciation not only to those who have lost their lives but also to the families they left behind. These families carry a heavy burden, and it's up to us to support them and demonstrate that their loved ones' sacrifices were not in vain. Sending heartfelt messages, attending Memorial Day parades, or volunteering with organizations that support veterans and their families are just a few ways to express our gratitude. Finally, Memorial Day is about community. It’s a time for us to come together, reflect, celebrate, and support each other. Hosting or attending a gathering, barbecue, or even a small get-together can strengthen our bonds and provide opportunities to share stories and memories. Even small gestures like flying the American flag or wearing red, white, and blue can foster a sense of unity and patriotism. In conclusion, while Memorial Day may often be seen as a long weekend or a chance to fire up the grill, let's not overlook its profound significance. Remembrance, gratitude, and community are the pillars that uphold the true spirit of this day. As we come together this Memorial Day, take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices made, express your gratitude, and cherish the company of your loved ones. Happy Memorial Day! May it be filled with reflection, appreciation, and togetherness. 🇺🇸 #MemorialDay #HonorAndRemember #CommunityStrength #HelpersOfChange

As a veteran, I understand that Memorial Day can be a bit confusing to navigate. It’s more than just a long weekend; it’s a time to honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. If you're wondering how to truly celebrate Memorial Day tomorrow, here are a few meaningful ways: 🇺🇸Visit a Memorial or Cemetery: Pay your respects by visiting a local memorial or cemetery. Placing flowers or flags on the graves of fallen soldiers is a powerful gesture of remembrance. 🇺🇸Attend a Memorial Day Ceremony: Many communities hold ceremonies or parades to honor the fallen. Participating in these events can be a heartfelt way to show your respect and gratitude. 🇺🇸Pause for a Moment of Silence: At 3 PM local time, join the National Moment of Remembrance. It’s a small act, but a collective pause can have a big impact. 🇺🇸Support Veterans: Consider donating to organizations that support veterans and their families. It’s a way to give back and ensure that their legacy lives on through continued support. 🇺🇸Share Stories and Memories: If you know a veteran or have family members who served, take the time to listen to their stories or share memories of those who are no longer with us. 🇺🇸Display the Flag: Fly the American flag at half-staff until noon, then raise it to full staff until sunset. It’s a traditional way to honor those who have fallen in the morning and salute living veterans in the afternoon. Remember, Memorial Day is about more than barbecues and beach trips (though I love those too!). It's a day to reflect, honor, and remember. #supportourveterans #veteranshelpingveterans #veteransupport #veteranlife #specialforces #supportourtroops

You or your brand does not have to make a Memorial Day post. If you do, however, keep in mind: 1) Please don’t write “Happy Memorial Day.” Please. Please don’t. There are at least a half-dozen better phrases to honor those who sacrificed their freedom. 2) If you can, make it personal. Tell a personal story. Take action. Showcase someone or a charitable work who focuses on working with the military and gold star families. Essentially, show why this day is important to you and/or your organization. Stick tap to Daniel Brackins for this one, but aim for authenticity. Any Memorial Day message should go beyond any generic platitudes, which might be worse than saying nothing at all. 3) Once your post is up, unplug. Enjoy your time away from LinkedIn and other social media. Let your post speak for itself. Make time for friends and family. We’ll be here tomorrow. So will your post. Posting a Memorial Day message should be more than crossing off a check mark. If that’s the case, it might be a sign to let your “Happy Memorial Day” stay in the drafts and wait for tomorrow.

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God." - Matthew 5:9 Peace is only made when all parties work through conflict. Attempts to avoid conflict only delay the inevitable, creating more time, pain, and division. HAPPY NATIONAL PEACE DAY. Conflict is part of the human experience, but peace is the result of a successful process, one best practiced routinely at home. When there is peace at home, it is most likely to extend into the community, the marketplace, the church, and beyond. At FAMA, we extend intelligent philanthropy to the root of the community... the home. To join our fight, visit famalliance.org.

My time being a blue-collar family member and worker has taught me to work with less and expect more. I will always strive for excellence and encourage everyone’s inner greatness.
Union Family, SMART-TD Local 610 is having its first-ever community outreach event at Arlington National Cemetery 1 Memorial Ave. Arlington, Virginia 22211. We would love to see as many participants as possible because if it is several of us or just one of us, we are showing that the Labor Movement and the 610 shows up and gives back, especially when it comes to veterans. Arlington National Cemetery will not require registration of each volunteer for National Wreaths Across America Day in 2023. There will be two dates for this community outreach. The wreath for placement for volunteers will be on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 12:00 pm (Wreath Placement Beginning at 8:00 am), and a cleanup date will be forwarded in the future. Understandably, we all have commitments this holiday season, and this location may not be around the block. However, there will be multiple wreath-laying ceremonies throughout the country on this date. So Local 610 challenges everybody hearing this message to volunteer and donate to Wreaths Across America. This year alone, labor has shown that we can successfully organize nationally when help is needed. Since this is our Local’s first official community outreach, we would love as much local and national support as possible for this cause. Understandably, there are many volunteer opportunities during this time of the year, and you may already be stretched thin. However, it is better to have many volunteer opportunities to choose from than to overwhelm one. Hope to see you there. In Solidarity, Johnny #wreathsacrossamerica #veterans #unionstrong Union Plus @unionveterans SMART Transportation Division @Smartunionworks https://lnkd.in/gNHkDNcK?

Today, as we celebrate Memorial Day, let’s take a moment to reflect on the true essence of this day. → It's not just about barbecues and long weekends. → It's about remembering the brave souls who fought for our freedom. → It's about honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice. A few thoughts on how we can honor our heroes: → Take a moment to remember and honor the fallen soldiers. Their bravery and sacrifice have given us the freedom we enjoy today. → If you know a veteran or someone who has lost a loved one in service, share their stories. Keeping their memory alive is the least we can do. → Find ways to support veterans and their families. This could be through donations, volunteering, or simply lending a listening ear. Let’s not forget: → Freedom isn't free. It comes at a great cost. → Today is a day to remember those who paid that cost with their lives. → Let’s honor them by appreciating the freedoms we have and by striving to make this world a better place in their memory. P.S. - How are you honoring Memorial Day today? #memorialday

As a #Brisbane office, we are not one to shy away from a challenge and a great cause, especially a challenge that involves a fitness/physical aspect. But for the month of August, I would like to support a fellow colleague Shayne McCorkelle as well at the Children's Hospital Foundation. For the month of August, 42k Your Way, has again set the 42km challenge, where you can complete 42km in a month your own way: walk, run or roll: on your own or with a team of friends or colleagues. Children's Hospital Foundation funds cutting-edge equipment, vital research and on the ground support for kids with all illnesses, injuries and conditions. They identify the action gaps in funding and support right across the kids; health landscape – the places left lacking but no less serving. The funds raised by taking part or just by donating will be used to support children like Zoey. Every dollar you raise through taking part in 42k Your Way can be the difference every kid deserves. #ChildrensHospitalFoundation #fundraise #support #team #teammembers #cause #change #research #action #future
🏃🏼♀️ Join Me in the 42k Your Way for the Children's Hospital Foundation! 🏥 This year, I am thrilled to be participating in the 42k Your Way event to raise funds for the Children's Hospital Foundation. As many of you know, my daughter Zoey has been on a crazy journey since birth in 2020, requiring multiple surgeries for her Cleft Palate and related medical attention. Her resilience and strength continue to amaze us every day. The Queensland Childrens Hospital, along with the support from the Children's Hospital Foundation, has been an absolute lifeline during these times. We are forever grateful for the exceptional care and love they have shown not only to Zoey but also to all the brave children who walk through their doors. Now, I'm reaching out to all of you with a plea for help. Together, we can make a difference for countless sick and injured kids who need our support. Every dollar raised will contribute to vital research, enable the acquisition of new equipment, and help provide entertainment and emotional support for children and their families while they are in the hospital. If you would like to donate, please click on the link below to contribute and be a part of this incredible journey with us.

The Small Acts of Community campaign kicks off today. Focused on the belief that small acts of community have great worth - this is something I’m super proud to be a part of. One of the lines of the student oath for taekwondo has always been my favorite “I shall build a more peaceful world.” I have always believed that world starts with the small things and those build up, add up, and inspire others. It was the premise behind my only large scale solo art show (featured about 4000 origami cranes). Today, as part of my professional work, and in joyous activism, we will be asking people to commit acts of community. Could be an act of kindness - say hello, hold a door open. Could be a larger act of community - help pick up some trash, help your neighbor out, volunteer your time with an organization near and dear to your heart. Things that are free and don’t cost a thing. Got some spare money - donate it to a good cause. Before you say but I don’t have any money - as part of the smaller events leading up to today, I was handed $1.23 from the pocket of an obviously unhoused man after taking with him about the campaign and we were told to put it to the community. Think you can’t make a difference? Think again. Check out the Small Acts campaign online at https://lnkd.in/er7jD6GF. Sign it, live it, and start making a difference today!
