Research shows that LGBTQ+ youth are nearly 2.5x more likely to consider suicide than their straight, cisgender peers. Furthermore, 82% of transgender individuals have considered suicide at some point in their lives. This LGBTQ+ Health Awareness Week, I believe that we have to face these difficult facts head-on if we want to address the issue. Many members of the LGBTQ+ community struggle with depression that often comes from experiencing discrimination, social stigma, bullying, or lack of acceptance from friends and family. Everyone deserves to live a happy, healthy, life where they feel supported. That's why it's so important that members of the LGBTQ+ community have access to behavioral health resources tailored to them. Although there are systemic changes that need to be addressed, we can all contribute to improving the mental well-being of LGBTQ+ people. Everyone can play a role in creating a supportive, accepting, and loving environment. #LGBTQHealthAwarenessWeek #MentalHealth #LGBTCommunity

Potential client asking questions 🤝 confirming potenital therapist compatibility. When a client contacts a potential therapist, either before or during the first session, they can ask the following questions to help them gain a better understanding of a provider's background and approach to LGBTQ+ care: - What is your background and training in providing LGBTQ+-affirming care? - What percent of your caseload identifies as LGBTQ+? - What do you find to be the biggest challenge in the LGBTQ+ community right now? (This question really gauges a provider's understanding of the LGBTQ+ community’s needs and systemic issues.) - What do you enjoy most about working with the queer community as a therapist? (This question demonstrates a provider's capacity to honor and celebrate queer joy.) If it’s important to a client, they can also ask if a provider identifies as LGBTQ+ themselves. While a provider can offer queer-affirming care without identifying as part of the queer community, it’s okay for clients to prefer working with a therapist who shares this important aspect of their identity. #mentalhealthmatters #pridemonth #therapy

🌈 June is Pride Month, a time to celebrate love, identity, and the vibrant diversity of the LGBTQ+ community. It's also a crucial time to acknowledge the challenges many LGBTQ+ young people face. The Trevor Project’s 2023 U.S. National Survey on the Mental Health of LGBTQ Young People revealed a heartbreaking statistic: 41% of LGBTQ+ young people seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year, with roughly half of transgender and nonbinary youth experiencing these thoughts. This Pride Month, let's come together to uplift and protect our LGBTQ+ youth. Everyone deserves to live a life filled with hope, acceptance, and love. 💜 [PIC] #LGBTQ #LGBTQSuicidePrevention #Pride #PrideMonth #MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealth #Depressed #Depression #Suicidal #Anxious #Anxiety #Lonely #SuicidePrevention #Help #MentalHealthAwareness #Suicide #Pain #YouAreNotAlone #YouAreEnough

Bath Mind are proud to be a part of Bath Pride this year! It's important to highlight, celebrate, and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community during Pride month in June, but also, year-round. Being LGBTQ+ doesn’t cause mental ill health, but some things you may go through as an LGBTQ+ person can make you more likely to experience poor mental health. Some things you may go through if you’re LGBTQ+ include homophobia, biphobia and transphobia, experiences of stigma and discrimination, social isolation, exclusion and rejection, and difficulties getting the healthcare you need for reasons such as discrimination, or long waiting lists for gender treatment if you’re trans. The impact that discrimination and isolation have on the mental health of LGBTQ+ people is clear, and avoidable. That’s why we at Bath Mind are committed to supporting the LGBTQ+ community all year around and are excited to be a part of Bath Pride 🌈🎉

Today, The Trevor Project released our inaugural 2024 Mexico National Survey on the Mental Health of LGBTQ+ Young People, which amplifies the experiences of 10,635 LGBTQ+ young people in Mexico between the ages of 13 and 24. The results of the survey reveal an alarming truth: over 50% of LGBTQ+ youth have considered suicide in the past year. This painful reality disproportionately affects 2 out of 3 #transgender and #nonbinary young people between ages 13-17, a crucial stage of life marked by identity exploration and acceptance. By addressing these factors properly, we can reduce stress and protect LGBTQ+ youth from future harm. It's time for all of us to take concrete actions and provide the necessary support to ensure the health and well-being of all LGBTQ+ youth in Mexico. Every word, support, and action resonates. #YourActionsEcho Check out the survey results ⬇
