How can we stop a planet-smashing asteroid? ☄️ With science, of course! This #AsteroidDay, physicist Cathy Plesko — one of two Lab scientists with an asteroid named after them — shares fact vs. science fiction.
Does anyone else find it darkly comedic that we're coming up with clever ways of mitigating nearly-impossible events while the Doomsday Clock is ninety seconds to midnight and Trump and Biden are in the White House? Asteroids are just not in the top ten, er twenty, er.. Well, they're just not a priority right now.
Wow, what a great job. Work on something that might not happen for 10 million years. I can't even get an interview with LANL so I can make an "impact" right now. Not even an interview for jobs I am qualified for. WTH?
I’d bet a lot of dinosaurs from the Cretaceous-Paleogene would be happier if you were on the job. But no, no I don’t have a time machine. 🦖
just send the planet crashing asteroids to Mars.
Very cool Cathy!
This is so cool! It reminds me of Space Gaurd from Rendezvous with Rama!

1wI recall as a post-doc when a senior scientist shared this effort with a couple of us. I am pleased to see its matured to the point where we have a press release about some proposed solutions
