The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not "#Eureka!" (I found it!) but "Hmm, that's funny..." That's the power of #anomalies. Anomalies are little deviations from our expectations based on current understanding and they can 'sometimes' be the clue to profound insights of the world around us. In the 19th century, the orbit of mercury could not be accurately predicted using the standard classical newtonian physics, because the planet precesses slightly faster than expected such that it completes an extra orbit in every 12 million years. This 1-in-a-12 million anomaly could be accurately described by Einsteins theory of relativity which he had been working on for seven years. It was the first of the many validations that successfully proved his theories, which began with thought experiments, he would conduct while he was working as a clerk in a patent office. Breakthrough Could Make Star Trek's Warp Drive a Reality Scientists have made an important advance that could make warp drive technology possible in the not-too-distant future. According to a team of NASA specialists, recent experiments demonstrate the potential viability of an Alcubierre-style "warp bubble" drive concept. The Alcubierre metric, proposed in 1994, describes how spacetime could be warped via "exotic matter" to allow a spacecraft to travel many times faster than light. While theorists have proven it mathematically sound, material able to manipulate space was thought nonexistent. However, NASA's Eaglework's lab has successfully generated microscopic "warp bubbles" with exotic plasma. By inducing electromagnetic fields, they compressed and stretched a region of plasma in a manner resembling an Alcubierre warp. This crucial proof-of-concept shows warp geometry can be produced at small scales using realistic conditions. While enormous challenges remain to scale up such effects, the result gives hope the most ambitious dreams of exploration may someday come true - potentially opening the galaxy to humanity. Did anyone see the BBC Ten O’clock News last night? Well, one article from Pallab Ghosh potentially elevates this letter to an incredibly significant piece of history: A letter from Albert Einstein to my grandfather, Neville Pope. Last night I saw on the BBC that recent supercomputer simulations at Durham University have highlighted intriguing gaps in our present understanding of physics. These findings remarkably intersect with the philosophical inquiries of my grandfather, Neville Pope. The letter from Einstein, dating back to March 21, 1954, (now in the Swansea archives) not only acknowledged my Grandfather’s perspective on the “clock-paradoxon” but also hinted at deeper layers of understanding that awaited exploration. While Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity has been a cornerstone of modern physics, my grandfather’s perspective, suggests an alternative viewpoint. This becomes especially compelling in light of the supercomputer’s findings and the recent validation of the ‘Poams Theory’ by NASA (from my last post, and the timing of catching up with my Grandfather and this development is bizarre, but fascinating). Decades ago, Neville Pope undertook a relentless journey, marked by both skepticism and introspective brilliance. Today, his philosophies appear to resonate with the anomalies flagged by state-of-the-art computational power. The first lesson you learn about modeling is that you should always keep in mind that a model is a simplification of reality, which is far more complex… 😂😂😂 Many tend to confuse a model with the reality it represents. Model is a simplified representation of a phenomenon to make the human brain understand such phenomenon. Often the simplification process involves loosing the consistency… For exemple, it is the human intelligence that defines the 29 constants. However the human intelligence has no capacity to validate whether or not such constants don’t change in the entire Universe. No one really knows the speed of light within a black hole. The current modeling that maintains such speed as constant cannot explain what really happens within the black hole… As conclusion, the Universe is far more complex than its simplified representation through the mathematical or physics modeling. We should always keep in mind that the human intelligence is very limited in understanding the Universe and life. Only such humility can open new perspectives for scientific research to thrive. The most solid foundation of science is DOUBTING! When your knowledge is based on certitude; there is a high probability that you’re totally wrong… 😂😂😂
