Pleased to share this Call for Papers for Renewable Energy Journal Special Issue in "Advancement in renewable energy for urban heat mitigation and energy use minimisation" Papers addressing the below issues are welcome: Achieving a life-cycle net zero carbon built environment requires the production and use of renewable energy not only to support the operation of low energy buildings but also for the production of the building construction and materials. Parallel to this objective is the need to ensure that the ecosystems around the built structures are protected, well managed and restored to ensure that they will be able to continuously support the livelihood of the people occupying that built environment. Achieving a net zero carbon built environment by utilizing renewable energy must go hand-in-hand with working with nature in order to support well-being of the people and the health of the environment. ⚡ REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL - Renewable and Electrification Feasibility Studies 💡 The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) is requested proposals to perform a series of demand-side reviews and renewable and electrification feasibility studies on 38 facilities within the Okanagan-Similkameen region. The project will provide the RDOS with the knowledge and resources required to implement solar and other renewable projects within constituent communities, as well as tools and recommendations for reducing total energy use and converting key building systems to electricity. The RDOS represents several smaller communities; and this project will assess facilities within 12 of these communities. Facilities include ice arenas, recreation centres, fire service buildings, and waste management facilities. Several sections of street lighting will also be reviewed for EV charging conversion. The area experiences a high frequency of forest fires, which disrupt the electrical grid. Renewable energy installations will improve the communities’ capacity and resilience to deal with power outages and other effects of climate change, including the ability to provide emergency cooling for the community in extreme heat events. A pond can be dry for many reasons: ☀ weather (like droughts) 🌊 natural events (like tides) ⚙ the use of the pond (like water retention ponds, hydrodams, etc.). Floating solar can meet this challenge depending on how FPV solutions and projects are engineered and implemented, from the floating platform to its anchoring. On one hand, our floating solar technology for example adapts to the water variation thanks to its flexibility. On the other hand, two teams of anchoring experts ensures the relevancy and reliability of the chosen anchoring solutions: > An R&D team specialized in the development of smart anchoring systems, > Local anchoring design engineers who focus on the specificities of each project. Water level variations where ponds are fully emptied of their water are various: from few-meter depth to a dozen-meter-depth. "Inefficient UK homes, which were built decades ago, can now do away with their gas boilers and get all their energy needs off-grid by retrofitting a combination of existing renewable energy technologies, new research shows. A study led by Professor Anton Ianakiev, an expert in civil engineering and carbon solutions at Nottingham Trent University (NTU), proves how millions of existing UK properties—which produce thousands of tons of CO2 per year—can become completely carbon-free. The study centers on combining existing insulation technology with photovoltaic solar panels, air or ground-source heat pumps, shared small-scale wind turbines, and shared large-scale batteries and heat storage facilities." #sustainableconstruction #sustainable
