Great to see our Managing Director, Jon Grantham, presenting at the MDP Sport & Recreation Management course in #London yesterday, organised by the Club Management Association of Europe (CMAE). Jon shared insights into our work with the Roehampton Club, where we've been helping shape their future masterplan. Our team has been instrumental in guiding the club's vision for the next 20 years, ensuring it aligns with planning policies while enhancing sports facilities, diversifying offerings, and improving amenities. We’re proud of our strategic contributions and the successful planning permissions we've secured for the club’s new indoor tennis facility and improved car parking. #Planning #SportManagement #RoehamptonClub #Sustainability #DevelopmentPlanning

Get rid of an inner city park to build a stadium? While I'll be waiting for the full report to be available, I am not convinced that building a new stadium for the same money as a Gabba rebuild at the expense of parkland is the solution. While connectivity at the Gabba is not great, it will certainly be improved once Cross River Rail is finished and is certainly not worse than Victoria Park. With the additional proposal of shifting the Brisbane Arena away from Roma Street station, I get the distinct feeling that there is a design to move these venues away from train station and closer to buses and bus ways. What do others think? Were you able to find the full report? Should we rebuild the Gabba or build a new one on Victoria Park? https://lnkd.in/gsHhkMub

// 🔥 Gabba Olympics Showdown: Coates Declares Current Project Doesn’t ‘Stack Up’ for 2032 Games In a surprising turn of events, Olympics powerbroker John Coates has advocated for the abandonment of the Gabba rebuild intended for the 2032 Games in Brisbane. The city is gearing up to host the Olympic Games in eight years, with various redevelopment projects in progress to prepare for this monumental sporting event. The entire masterplan for the Olympic and Paralympic Games is currently undergoing a 60-day review, led by former Brisbane lord mayor Graham Quirk. This review aims to assess the spending on infrastructure, considering the scope of the planned redevelopments. #brisbane #infrastructuredevelopment #queensland #construction #olympicgames #olympics #2032vision #labourparty #planning #architecture #townplanning #urbandesign #urbanrenewal #stadiums https://lnkd.in/gumvMrhm

Brisbane Olympics 2032 Review - 1 Hosting the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games brings with it expensive requirements to develop South East Queensland regions and Brisbane. The Brisbane Olympics infrastructure strategy includes 18 new or upgraded direct and multiple indirect Olympics projects that will boost Brisbane and SEQ. The independent review into the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic sport venue infrastructure is due to be presented tomorrow, March 18 2024. The review will consider key criteria including: * value for money * fit-for-purpose * deliverability * community legacy. During the review there were reports that “regions” would benefit from the Brisbane Olympics. Finally, a recent international report quantified the average cost blowout for infrastructure projects. Olympics related projects had the second highest cost blowout. Rob McCahill Reuben Richardson Taha Chaiechi

Augusta National is far more than a golf club, and it's far more than the site for one of the world's leading sporting events. Indeed, it is a one-of-its-kind organization that exemplifies excellence across a multitude of disciplines. As I departed from Augusta over the weekend, I reflected on this special place that Jim Nanz aptly described on television as "a tradition unlike any other." (Augusta subsequently trademarked this phrase). Below are three observations that struck me as fundamental to Augusta's remarkable success. ✅ Attention to detail. At Augusta, every detail is attended to. From the perfect fairways, where not a single blade of grass appears out of place, to the spotless stands and the staff's service, nothing is overlooked. ✅ A vision unlike any other. Augusta was born in 1932 out of the dauntless vision of Bobby Jones (then an iconic US golfer) and British golf course architect Dr. Alister MacKenzie to be a leading national golf course that would host world-class competitions. The club's commitment to being the best is reflected in everything you see—from television coverage to positioning attendees as "patrons" rather than spectators to the club's blue-chip membership. ✅ Long-term decision-making. Augusta does not play for short-term wins. It is invested in long-term value creation and a fundamentally different product than other tournaments. It executes for the long term with unwavering commitment. The famous 330-yard Magnolia Lane that extends from the entrance gate to the clubhouse was paved in 1947, yet the large magnolia trees that line both sides of the road date to the late 1850s. Anchored in tradition but embracing change with cutting-edge technology and analysis—that, to me, is what makes Augusta great. If you have not visited the Masters, I would encourage you to do so—even if it is only to study the remarkable Augusta National institution. #AugustaNational #Golf #Excellence #MagnoliaLane #Tradition

Well done
Teeing off on creating an inclusive environment for all. I’m proud that RSM UK are a lead sponsor for the EDGA Golf play-off series, not only because I get to watch and play some great golf today, but also because it offers an entry point for people with disabilities to thrive. Golf has long been viewed as an exclusive sport, for the few. Through our partnership with EDGA, we’ve set out to change this perception, and whilst we’re not there just yet, we’re moving from strength to strength. The reality is that golf should be an inclusive sport that provides physical and mental health benefits to players of all abilities, and our goal, together, is to bring this to life. Our commitment to creating an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive is as strong as ever. I’m already looking forward to the 2025 tournament, although my swing needs a bit of work before then! #golf #sport #opportunities

I think this is a good thing, PA ski area association opening membership to outdoor recreation business, everyone is becoming year-round. This will also add more power & might to the association to get somethings done or stopped. I'm also sure it will lead to more cross ties to keep everyone open longer with more support. https://lnkd.in/gFjWwFu8 @goskipa @GoSkiPA #OutdoorIndustry #SkiAreaLaw #SkiLaw @RecreationLaw #RecLaw #RecreationLaw

AELTC Planning Application for Wimbledon Park Golf Course: GLA Hearing 27 Sept '24 As the Leader of Merton Council 1991-7 who sold the site to the AELTC and MP for Putney and Southfields 1997- 2005 and a resident of Wimbledon Park/Southfields 1966-2005, I would like to make these comments ahead of the 27th September Hearing. These views have been known to all parties since 2022. 1) The freehold sale to the AELTC was of MOL that had been used for the 3 weeks of the Championship for temporary structures and car parking. The discussions with the AELTC was that the only change would be for the addition of new courts to enable the Qualifiers event to move from Roehampton and for practice courts during the Championship. All that is on the application along these lines should be approved subject to any infrastructure being zero carbon. 2) The proposal of a permanent 8000 seater Parkland Show Court contravenes the MOL status of the land. However I have suggested since 2022 a compromise: a) that the structure be temporary and only for the 3 weeks as per paras 120-121 of the GLA officers report: "120. In order to minimise the amount of permanent infrastructure and reduce the visual impact, a careful balance of permanent infrastructure and temporary overlay will be utilised to transform the Parkland from Year- Round to Qualifying and The Championships. 121. The temporary structures consist of temporary seating stands for the four Parkland Outer Show Courts" The idea of a demountable stadium/show court has been proved by the ABBA Voyage Stadium, given planning permission by the GLA and running for the last 3 years before it moves to Rio. The Adele Stadium in Munich was temporary for 4 weeks and now dismantled. The US Cricket Stadium in NYC is to be temporary. The AELTC would store off site and use electric vehicles (zero carbon) to move the Structure. The utilities connection can remain in the grassland until needed the following year. b) The temporary Show Court should be negative carbon not concrete and steel. Let us have a 21st century show court made largely of nature based materials such as mass timber... as is the ABBA Stadium in Stratford. The architects of London would tell you it is totally feasible. The idea of using ivy grown over the concrete stadium taking years, reminds me of putting lipstick on a pig... how much better to have a beautiful timber exterior. I know this compromise is hated by friends in both Merton and Wandsworth, but I do want the AELTC to succeed in their development of the golf course as envisaged by John Currie and myself. I would assume the Deputy Mayor for reasons of cost may want to side with his officers recommendation, but if that is so, I recommend to Angela Rayner that she calls it in and considers the points I have made. Alternatively, the AELTC may want, of their own volition, to make peace with the residents and move to my position. Thank you for reading. The full Officers' report is on the GLA website.
