I'm so tired of the negativity you see about #nursing on social media. These videos are full of nurses cutting down others, making fun of patients, or verbally attacking the administration. If there was a Nurse Positivity Project channel where you could submit uplifting stories, career advice, self-care tips, and clips about advocacy and awareness, would you do it? Would you be excited to share small clips that could encourage another nurse or even someone considering going to nursing school? I've been thinking about starting an account, but I would need lots of other nurses to submit content so that it's not just me talking. I want it to be the place nurses can turn to when they need 30 seconds of encouragement, empowerment, or a gentle reminder that they are doing great work. However, nurse experts who have actually worked clinically nationwide may make a bigger impact than those who have stayed in one facility their entire career. Answering the question : What does "Good Nurse" mean to you? Thanks Mandy Irby, The Birth Nurse at sparking the conversation When I was a bedside nurse - Good nurse to me, meant providing hollistic care to my patients. It also meant advocating for them and empowering them to self advocate. Unfortunately, I didnt see caring for myself as "good". I thought it was selfish and it led to my somewhat resenting my work over time. As a nurse manager , "Good nurse", means helping my team contribute to creating a positive and healthy workplace by creating systems that foster effective communication and encourage personal wellbeing of staff. Its reminding staff to pace themself and take care of their health. That way they can have a long and rewarding career. Just like in the aeroplane safety briefing : Rather than placing the oxygen mask on the patient first, they put the oxygen mask on themself first. Where does this leave the patient? With good continuity of care and they are cared for in a place where they enjoy being because the environment is healthy and positive. What do you think ?
