💡Can we reach our 2050 climate goals? The aviation industry faces significant challenges in achieving climate-friendly or even climate-neutral flying by 2050, according to a report from the Office for Technology Assessment at the German Bundestag (TAB). The report emphasizes the need for a mix of technologies: 🔌electric propulsion 🛫sustainable fuels 🌿green hydrogen ⛽fuel optimization ✈️aircraft efficiency improvements However, achieving climate-neutral aviation by 2050 seems unlikely without more drastic measures such as taxation or quotas. Despite efforts to develop sustainable aviation fuels and alternative propulsion technologies, significant hurdles remain, including technical complexity, scalability, and infrastructure challenges. The latest EU vision on Zero Emission Aircract has been published. Below are the some key insights: By 2050, Electric and Hydrogen powered aircraft could help abate up to 43 megatonnes (Mt) of CO2 annually on intra-European routes, reducing emissions by one-third. This shift is essential to meet the EU's Green Deal objectives of net-zero emissions by 2050. The adoption of electric and hydrogen propulsion is not only a climate imperative but also an economic opportunity. Bertrand Piccard wants to stimulate action to decarbonise aviation- Climate Impulse hopes to demonstrate that Green liquid hydrogen enabled aviation is the best way to achieve this. But the system of management, research and development, marketing and sales didn’t support breakthrough speed. And why should they at the time? With an order backlog of almost 10 years there did not exist much internal or external #urgency. It needed the #powerOfPersuasion to get ignited: #sustainabilityleadership One framework which ignited a collaborative approach between #Customer facing and internal #technology focused functions was to “#ThinkWrong”.
