#DEGAandIP In its latest report – World Intellectual Property Indicators 2023, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) says trademark class counts fell by 14.5% in 2022, marking the first annual reduction in class count since 2009🫢 In 2022, an estimated 11.8 million trademark applications covering 15.5 million classes were filed worldwide, while patent filings сontinued to rise for a third consecutive year, with 3.46 million patent applications submitted🙂 At the same time, out of almost 3 thousand (2,760) applications that were submitted from Ukraine, this indicator decreased by 626 positions compared to the figures of the previous year🫣 WIPO Director General Daren Tang warned that geopolitical instability and an uncertain economic outlook could weigh on the global IP ecosystem, powered by increased levels of innovation, creativity, entrepreneurship and digitalisation globally🌌 You can read the full report via the link: http://surl.li/obwdz. Romania Becomes 18th EU State To Join Unified Patent System The EU's Unitary Patent Agreement has been ratified by Romania as of May 31, 2024, making it the 18th state to join the Unitary Patent system. On 2 May 2024, the Paris Central Division of the UPC issued a decision concerning the jurisdiction and the applicability of the Brussels I Regulation (recast) in the context of a patent revocation action brought before the UPC. In the ongoing revocation action brought by Nokia Technology GmbH against Mala Technologies Ltd., a preliminary objection filed by Mala Technologies required the UPC to examine its relationship with the national courts of member states.
