Over the last 20 years, we’ve served over 370 non-profit organizations and 98% have reached their financial goals. 💸 Managing Director, Martha Asselin shares the top 3️⃣ things she keeps in mind when forecasting the achievability of a fundraising campaign goal: 💪🏽 Assess the Strength of Your Case: For Martha, a comprehensive study is paramount. She evaluates the strength of a nonprofit’s Case based on donor and stakeholder interest and can then determine their fundraising goal more accurately. She identifies donor priorities, gauges philanthropic interest, and ensures alignment with potential donors' key values. 🙋🏻♀️ Volunteer Participation Matters: In the last almost 2 decades, Martha has observed that if donors are willing to give their time to a goal as volunteers, they’re more likely to give their financial support as well. Understanding if potential donors are willing to contribute their time as volunteers can make a huge difference. 🚀 Does your goal resonate with your donors? It's not just about aiming high; it's about being realistic and attainable. Martha emphasizes the importance of gauging donor willingness which is a reflection of the importance of your plan in their philanthropic giving. After working with numerous nonprofits, she believes a successful goal requires at least 80% donor buy-in on the plans and the attainability of the goal. Understanding your donors' commitment is key to setting achievable targets. 🤝 Relationships matter! As most are well aware by this point in the year, the Giving USA Report's findings have been published and discussed extensively within the nonprofit sector. Many things in fundraising have changed over the years. The one thing that hasn't changed in all the years that giving data has been tracked in the United States? 👨💼 👩🔬 👨🏫 👨🚒 Individual giving, as has always been the case, represents the lion share of philanthropy. 👩💼 👨🍳 👨🏭 👩💻 In fact, even individuals who are no longer living (bequests and estate giving) give more than corporations. At the end of the day, whether you're fundraising from an individual, a foundation, or a corporation, giving will be built on a relationship with a person. All of this says one simple and important thing: 💥 If you're going to be successful in fundraising, authentic relationships between fundraisers and donors matter. 💥 At Covenant Philanthropic Solutions, we approach our work with our clients no differently than you should be approaching your fundraising with your donors. For years, Claudia Looney has welcomed her friends and clients into her home for lunch or a cup of coffee in her backyard gazebo as they talked (like humans) about important business. 15 years later, this firm that was founded on the ethos represented by "lunches in Claudia's gazebo" remains a firm committed to relationships and enjoying the people we get to work with. We don't merely aim to take on clients, we aim to become true partners. 🤝 Tony Jennison #Philanthropy #Relationships #Fundraising #Nonprofits #Charities

🎯 Start preparing your board for giving! 😀 As your fiscal year-end approaches (June or December for many organizations) and you begin budgeting for your year ahead, start thinking about your board's financial contribution to your nonprofit. Cultivating a culture of giving among your board members is essential for long-term sustainability. Board giving only sometimes means extraordinary amounts, especially if your board members are not from high-net-worth households. However, board participation in giving, regardless of the amount, demonstrates a united commitment to the organization's mission and can inspire confidence among external donors. Here are a few reasons why board members should donate financially: 💡 Demonstrates commitment and leadership 🤝 Enhances credibility when seeking external funding 🌱 Fosters a culture of philanthropy within the organization 💪 Strengthens the board's understanding of the fundraising process To prepare for next year's budget, consider: 📅 Setting clear expectations for board member donations - 100% giving is the goal, but that may not fit all boards 💰 Providing guidance on appropriate giving levels, usually a personally meaningful contribution 🎓 Offering training and support to help board members become effective fundraisers - if they want to - and make sure all board members are part of your PR team 🎉 Recognizing and celebrating board members' contributions to encourage continued giving and engagement Engaging your board in the fundraising process early and often builds a strong foundation for your organization's financial future. #NonprofitLeadership #BoardEngagement #Fundraising #Philanthropy #NonprofitOrganizations

Good Works Grant Writing's #ProGrantTip is to highlight your #nonprofit's collaborative efforts even when #GrantApplications don't specifically request this information. Demonstrate that your #organization more effectively addresses a community need through partnerhips with other organizations — pooling expertise, expanding outreach, and maximizing impact, rather than duplicating efforts. Illustrate that your collaborations prioritize the community's needs over your one organization's success, increasing the collective organizations' potential for broad and meaningful impact. In addition to naming your nonprofit's partner agencies, consider including a brief description of what differentiates your own organization from these, providing information about how these partnerships are complementary in nature. I help your fundraising team build the skills, strategies and systems you need to raise more major gifts
Fundraisers - are you looking for major donors in all the wrong places? Here’s the single most strategic place to start filling your pipeline: Right in your own backyard! Look at donors who are already engaged with and supporting your cause. This runs counter to a common misperception in fundraising - that the search for major donors starts outside of your nonprofit. As an organization with an established individual giving base, there are donors already giving to you who are interested in making a greater investment in your important work. You already have supporters who are ready to be meaningfully engaged and introduced to more aspirational opportunities to create change! Here are two simple - and often overlooked - places to start filling your pipeline. 𝟭) 𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 Depending on the size of your shop, it could be $1,000, $500 or even $250. Ensure you have a process in place to regularly identify, review and qualify these donors for your major gift portfolio. 𝟮) 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝘂𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 Many very generous supporters are flying under your radar, because they’re giving smaller recurring gifts that add up over time. Don’t overlook your longtime donors with significant cumulative giving histories. Do you have a major gift success story that started by connecting with someone already engaged with your cause? Tell me in the comments! And if you want more practical tips to build a powerful fundraising pipeline and fill it with prospects who are ready, willing and able to give you a major gift - don’t miss my free guide!
