Happy National Apprenticeship week! I’ve challenged myself to share some posts this week from my experience on the Level 7 Senior Leader Degree Apprenticeship with Henley Business School, Chartered Management Institute and Lloyds Banking Group… One of my key takeaways from the Degree Apprenticeship which I graduated from in 2023 is that resilience is so much more than enduring. ✏️ look at this pencil - we know that from time to time it’s going to have to go through a resharpening to be at its best. If this pencil could feel, we know how difficult that would be. This is much like life. Experiences that are challenging come to us but it’s these moments that we build true character. And resilience in these moments is so much more than enduring - it’s knowing when to stop, slow down and restart. Success means taking breaks too - especially when doing an apprenticeship alongside working full time! It is an incredible opportunity and you want to be at your best. The Lloyds Banking Group Rising Star of the Year Award (Apprentices that have made impressive progress in their career to date, and have the potential to go even further. Nominations are made by their employer). Full List below APPRENTICE, T LEVEL STUDENT AND SKILLS CHAMPION CATEGORIES The Apprentice of the Year categories are looking to recognise those who are working towards, or have recently completed, their apprenticeship or T Level qualification The Amazon Intermediate Apprentice of the Year Award (Level 2) The BAE Systems Advanced Apprentice of the Year Award (Level 3) The British Army Higher Apprentice of the Year Award (Level 4 or 5) The Royal Navy Degree Level Apprentice of the Year Award (Level 6 or higher) The Lloyds Banking Group Rising Star of the Year Award (Apprentices that have made impressive progress in their career to date, and have the potential to go even further. Nominations are made by their employer). The Gatsby T Level Student of the Year Award (New for 2024) The Royal Air Force Skills Champion of the Year Award (Individuals who go ‘above and beyond’ to champion apprenticeships, T Levels and other skills programmes. Nominations are made by a colleague or contact who recognises an individual’s ‘champion’ credentials). EMPLOYER OF THE YEAR CATEGORIES The BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT SME Apprenticeship Employer of the Year Award (for organisations with 1 to 249 employees) The QA Large Apprenticeship Employer of the Year Award (for organisations with 250+ employees) The Gatsby T Level Employer of the Year Award (New for 2024) Social Justice Employer of the Year Award (Awarded to an organisation which demonstrates the impact they have had in creating opportunities and support for those who are disadvantaged or under-represented) The IfATE Skills Development Partner of the Year Award (Awarded to individuals who have gone the extra mile to develop, approve, review and revise apprenticeships and T Levels in partnership with The Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education).

Great mentors make a big difference in apprenticeships & they are vital to the success of a program. Great mentors teach apprentices how to become future leaders in any type of organization. Mentors play a key role to the organic roots & technical elements of a program.

SME's are the backbone of the economy but don't seem to be accessing apprenticeships in the way the Levy sized businesses are. Recruiting new, or developing your existing talent is a great way to innovate and improve your competitiveness. Rewarding people with personal development is also a proven way to retain the staff that are critical to your future plans. The government are offering at least 95% funding for apprenticeships in SME’s, accessing the Transfer to Transform levy initiative can mean you gain 100% funding support to pay for apprenticeship training.
