It was a pleasure to participate on this very well moderated panel with fellow industry professionals discussing the future of #ai and #datacenters. Lots of vibrant discussion about demand, dc design, hype cycle, future topologies/ecosystems and challenges. Good questions from the audience as well. It’s the early innings of a long baseball game but there are exciting times ahead. #digitalrealty.

With the rise of AI and #cloudcomputing, the pressure on #datacentres to manage power and water consumption efficiently has never been higher. But why does sustainable thinking in data centres need to be both broad and deep? While I agree that AI and cloud growth are adding pressure to data centre operations, I question whether simply retrofitting old sites and adjusting cooling systems are enough. We need to rethink the entire infrastructure, from design to implementation, especially with #powerefficiency and cooling efficiency in mind. #AI will keep pushing demand, and if we don’t innovate fast enough, the gap will widen. Last week we had the pleasure of attending the “Infrastructure: Into the Cloud: To Best Capitalize on the Digital Opportunity, Firms Must…” panel moderated by Ana Maria Movila, CPA Auditor at the Women’s Private Capital Summit. Identifying a significant opportunity for infrastructure investors in light of recent AI and computing advancements, and power supply demands by hyperscalers, Ana Maria’s questions teased out challenges top of mind for deal makers and investors in this space and how they are tackling these issues. Each with their own record-breaking investment experiences, the panelists emphasized that firms must embrace the rapid growth and development of digital-supporting infrastructure (such as power-efficient data centers and long-haul or dark fibre) in their investments, set a fast-paced deal cadence, and explore offshore options to meet corporate demand. So, there are a multitude of insightful nuggets that can be derived from the industry's FIRST-EVER GLOBAL survey exclusively on #DigitalSovereignty, which was recently conducted by IDC. According to the survey, a sizable chunk of public sector organizations are willing to pay a premium (upwards of 10%) in addition to their existing IT budgets to implement a #SovereignCloud solution over the next 12 months. Moreover, the majority of such organizations are striving to find a balance between leveraging #AI for #Innovation and upholding digital sovereignty principles, as this is increasingly becoming a top priority. When we consider the spending potential, IDC predicts a significant increase in global spending on sovereign cloud solutions, with projections reaching USD 258.5 billion by 2027. Such trends are also being witnessed among Asia-Pacific public sector organizations.
