This accolade is a resounding testament to the unmatched beauty, adventure, culture, creativity, diversity and natural wonders that make Cape Town truly extraordinary. But what sets us apart from the countless incredible cities around the globe, especially with New York City taking the top spot? I delved into the LSM metrics we're being rated on — safety, job opportunities, walkability, food & drink, and public transport. While New York City boasts impressive statistics across the board; Lower unemployment rate, Higher average salary, More people in the melting pot, More universities, A bike-sharing system, Lower VAT etc I believe it is Cape Town's unique #charm and #spirit that seems to outshine the operational and infrastructural disparities?! The Time Out Group plc, are a global media and hospitality business based in London, UK. The Group are dedicated to "keeping their finger on the pulse", whilst inspiring and enabling people to experience the best events, entertainment, and culture in cities worldwide . What struck me is that Cape Town's #vibrancy and indomitable #spirit have propelled it to the top tiers. Despite facing a history marred by injustices, the #resilience and hope that pump through this city (on the Southern tip of Africa), are experienced by all who visit. I’m not really a fan of Auckland's new tourism advert for the city. It has a Finnish actor go and do a few quirky things around the city, with the pretence that since he’s from Finland the world’s happiest country, he’s happy, but in the end, Auckland made him very happy. The thing is, even though New Zealand and Finland are very similar sized countries in terms of population and somewhat landmass, they are worlds apart! Finland excels at so many things in comparison to New Zealand, such education, affordable housing, and crime prevention, as well as especially urban-planning and transportation in cities. These are some of the main factors as to why the Finns are so happy! Helsinki’s metro population is slightly smaller than Auckland’s, yet over the decades they have decided to focus more on transit-oriented mixed-use walkable medium-high density, whereas Auckland chose low-density car-centric sprawl. Helsinki still has plenty of low-density suburbs for those who want to live in them, but since there’s far fewer of them per capita they cause significantly less strain on the city, compared to Auckland’s. Urban planning and transportation heavily affect our lives and numerous studies show that approaches like Helsinki’s have a more positive impact on your life and you’re more likely to be happy. You often have a greater since of community, safety and freedom. There’re even huge benefits children, as parents feel safe to give them a far greater amount of independent mobility and freedom to roam around their neighbourhoods own their own, which does increase their happiness and improves their learning. New Zealand’s common car-dependent lifestyles (or the often sedentary lifestyle if you can’t drive) is shown to have many negative consequences, yet we still typically plan/build this way. I haven’t been to Finland or any Scandinavian country, but I’d very much like to go, as I have seen and heard so many great things about it. Here's a quick rundown: Partnerships: We're proud to collaborate with 7 key partners, including the City of West Palm Beach, Brightline, and local hotels like The Ben, to operate our 17-vehicle fleet throughout the city. Advertising: Our innovative partnerships with local and national brands help fund our mission, ensuring affordable rides for all. Service Expansion: Last year, we introduced fares in select areas to enhance service efficiency, while keeping individual rides at a maximum of $4, and group rides at $8. Community Impact: Thanks to our public and private funders, we've directly created 42 local jobs and generated an estimated $500,000 of monthly economic impact. Local Expertise: Our passionate employee drivers are hired directly from West Palm Beach, bringing expert local knowledge to every ride. #EnvironmentalImpact: We help the City avoid over 70 metric tons of GHG emissions monthly, contributing to a greener future.
