I think it is incredibly important to create opportunities for young people, and that is one of the main reasons why I volunteer with Scouts. PwC UK‘s 'Dragons' Den' Virtual Skills Programme - a fun and engaging way for secondary school students to develop essential skills for the future. B-BBEE is a very interesting policy that is meant to advance economic transformation and enhance the economic participation of black people. BEE Chamber has been offering online sessions to unpack information about Empowerment strategy. The most interesting part for me was on how to link all the elements of the scorecard starting from Socio-Economic Development (SED) initiatives. When we offer quality and sustainable educational support, we are sure that beneficiaries of learnerships/ internships programs (increase employability) will be equipped and will not struggle to fill in management control element because we could have invested on quality skills development programs. Through skills development programs people can start their on businesses in future (Self-Employment) and can be part of the enterprise development program, this can lead to accessing funds, being part of mentoring and coaching programs and we know that this will be beneficial for the growth of their business and companies cans start procuring services from them and they can end up on supplier development programs. And we are so sure that in future people can own (Ownership) their own companies because it is possible. BBBEE programs when done correctly can change lives.

As we celebrate Youth Month we take pride in our commitment to uplifting and empowering the youth of South Africa. Through strategic investments and targeted programmes, we are creating opportunities for young individuals to secure employment, gain valuable skills, and build a better future. We’ve allocated R126.6 million toward bursaries, training programmes, internships, and learnerships. These initiatives provide financial support and practical experience to deserving youth across various fields. Additionally, our R22 million investment in the Youth Employment Service (YES) directly contributes to training and developing youth from our host communities, fostering job readiness and sustainable employment opportunities. Furthermore, our 24-month mentoring programme involves 126 employees, 89% of whom are black individuals (with 58% being black women), nurturing talent, enhancing skills, and guiding young professionals toward successful careers. Our commitment to the young people of Africa and beyond extends beyond financial investments. We believe that by nurturing talent, fostering inclusivity, and providing opportunities, we contribute to a stronger, more prosperous South Africa. Youth Month is a reminder that the youth are our greatest asset, and their success is intertwined with our collective progress. Celebrating and recognizing Black Women’s Equal Pay Day. Today we raise awareness about the pay gap faced by Black women and emphasize the need for equal pay for equal work. Black women are skilled, valuable, and essential contributors to the workforce, and deserve to be compensated fairly. Black women earn 63 cents for every dollar earned by white, non-Hispanic men. This wage gap affects the financial stability and economic growth of families and communities. Registered apprenticeships are a powerful tool in bridging the wage gap by providing structured, high-quality career pathways that lead to well-paying jobs.
