It’s Biodiversity Month!    As one of the largest verified Sustainable Winegrowing Australia members, our ongoing commitment to sustainable wine production drives us to continually enhance our regenerative farming practices.     We collectively maintain over 2,000 hectares of native vegetation which houses a chorus of native bees and other beneficial insects – helping preserve, grow, and increase biodiversity in the area. We also have programs in place to support the endangered Regent Parrot, which officially calls parts of our land home as part of the NSW Government’s Saving our Species initiative.    With the goal of counteracting the negative impacts of agriculture on Australia’s environment, we implement a number of initiatives across a broad spectrum of sustainable practices - including water conservation, improving soil microbial diversity, soil carbon baselining, increasing soil carbon, reducing waste to landfill and being more efficient with energy and water.  #DuxtonVineyards #BiodiversityMonth 

Why forest restoration is crucial for our Cape honey bee! 🐝 🌸 Forage & Habitat: Indigenous forests provide essential nectar and pollen for the bees' nutrition and health. 🦋 Biodiversity: Supports a balanced ecosystem where bees and other pollinators thrive. 💦 Water Conservation: Replacing invasive species with indigenous plants conserves water, benefiting all flora and fauna. ☀️ Climate Resilience: Enhances climate resilience, mitigating the effects of climate change. 🚜 Sustainable Agriculture: Healthy bee populations ensure better crop pollination and sustainable farming. Just over a third of our crops are pollinated almost exclusively by various bee species, so losing bees would be a massive blow to human food security. Without bees, you might have to say goodbye to tomatoes, avocados, apples, pears, plums, peaches, oranges, naartjies, coffee, and other fruits and vegetables. We want to take a moment to celebrate our partners Boland Cellar, Nedbank, Groupe NUXE, TopFruit and Pink Lady, who have all committed to planting indigenous, bee-friendly trees as a part of the Boland Forests For Life Pledge Fund. I am fascinated by the small, inconspicuous #wild #plants that we only discover when we bend down, that #sprout from the #ground without #human #intervention, even in the middle of the #city and on #company premises, in the #cracks and #joints of #sidewalks, #streets and #squares. And people should make #room for wild plants where they do not cause disruption and do not endanger #operational or #public #safety.  #Guerilla #gardening and #vertical #gardening can be an option. The diverse plant and animal life here work together to ensure healthy soil, pollination, and pest control. In Colombia's biodiversity-rich landscapes, over 3 million hectares of forest – that's the size of Belgium! – have been cleared for livestock, causing biodiversity loss and increased carbon emissions. But cows can be part of the solution! 🐄🌳 We often view people, animals, trees and land as separate entities. However, they are interconnected systems that have coexisted for centuries. Integrating grazing animals in and around forests has long supported ecosystems and met local needs: ✨ Rehabilitates degraded lands, improves grass diversity and stimulates growth by dispersing seeds with hooves and manure. ✨ Uses manure as organic fertiliser, reducing chemical inputs. ✨ Helps farmers adapt to climate challenges with resilient soils. ✨ Increases farm productivity with healthier, better-fed cattle and less agrochemical use, boosting farmer income. ✨ Preserves Colombia's natural biodiversity and prevents deforestation. 🌍 In the spirit of International Biodiversity Day, we welcome animal helpers to mow the grass at some of our solar power plants in the #Czech Republic. 🌱 Recognizing the utmost importance of biodiversity, we commit to operating our power plants in the most #sustainable manner possible. 🌼 This is reflected in our #diverse activities, including biomonitoring animal and plant species, installing beehives, planting bushes and flowers, not using any pesticides on our territory, and welcoming sheep to our power plants to mow the grass during the Spring and Summer seasons. 🐑 Thanks to the efforts of the Czech team, 11 power plants from our local portfolio will welcome sheep.
