When someone describes another as "being a different breed", generally it's usually meant as an insult but there are times within certain industries where it's a compliment. One of those industries is customer service via tires. Whether you work for Kal Tire The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company or another company, you'll hear it quite often (mostly commercial and OTR techs) from drivers and operators, especially those who have done the job before, that we are a different breed. Quite often you'll see someone put in 2-3 years and then move on. If they stick around 5-10 years or more, they're likely in management, field sales or mechanical. What is among the more rare is having someone who has done commercial and OTR for 10+ years. Hard work that takes a toll on the body, even the mind. Staying late to get jobs done so customers can continue their productivity, going out when everyone else is going in. These individuals usually have a higher standard of #safety and #awareness, #problemsolving and generalized thinking ability. Often they are alone, have to deal with weather extremes, dying light, ect. I guess a more appropriate term for this group of people would be that they are a special breed. Happy to be a part of it, wouldn't change a thing. Customers are happy to see you, always thankful for the work you do and usually give a higher level of respect. It's not an easy job, you need a solid level of dedication and determination to get it done, to keep on top of jobs that are always rolling in. These times won't last forever but I'll make sure to enjoy every bit of it while it lasts.

My 10 year outlook on the auto industry... Front end gross is going to be a thing of the past Your parts & service departments will need to be refined in every aspect to be closer to 100% absorption (if not already there). Your F&I departments will need to be aggressive althewhile putting your consumers needs first. Why? Consumers are demanding more transparency. Competition amongst dealers in your region will be ever so tight due to this. Todays car salesman looks a lot different than someone that sold 20 years ago. Parts, Service, F&I = The Future

Is a Pre-Purchase Inspection worth the cost?? Let me answer that question with a question. Is saving $99,000 more or less important to you than saving less than 1% of that $99K? Let me explain, here we have a 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet that was for sale at a local dealership. The potential buyer calls me from Michigan and hires me to inspect this supposed "CLEAN CARFAX", 1 owner Porsche that was listed as "Celebrity Owned". Upon arrival at the dealership, I was informed by 2 separate salesmen about how clean and beautiful this car is, To which I always reply, "𝑰'𝒎 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒃𝒖𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒕, 𝑰'𝒎 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒕". My job isn't to sell the car OR kill the deal. My job is to inspect, verify, inform and educate the potential buyer on the condition of the car and the accuracy of the seller's claims. During my inspection, I found that the car had previous damage on the right side and it had been repainted. The claim of having "New Tires" was easy to spot as false when verifying the date codes on the tires. When I asked if there was any proof of Celebrity Ownership, I was told, "𝑵𝒐, 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒏𝒐 𝒅𝒐𝒄𝒖𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏". When I called the dealership to schedule the appointment to inspect, I always ask if there is a lift on-site so an undercarriage inspection can take place, I was assured that this was no problem, however, once on-site I was told by several employees that "No one knows how to operate the lift" So I was not able to see any discrepancies with the underside of the car. For less than 1% of the total purchase price of this Porsche, I saved this buyer from a $99,000 mistake!!! NEVER take a dealer's word for it, NEVER trust what a seller is selling you. Have it inspected by a disinterested 3rd party that will provide you with the truth and prepares you to make a wise investment decision. Why is it that general managers in used car dealerships don’t understand the importance of having a reconditioning manger that knows what he is doing and has the respect of the technician and the sales team. It’s all about time to the frontline you want to make gross and not just sell loser then focus on the reconditioning manger
