Igniteyei - Ignite Youth Empowerment Initiative is an Obuobia foundation dedicated to empowering young women to reach their full potential. One of our major activities is reading a book every month, we meet online to discuss a chapter everyday, and concluding with a fruitful conversation at the end of the month with our mentor Obuobia Darko Opoku, and other resource persons. This month, we discussed two incredible books: “You Are a Badass” by Jen Sincero and “Daring Greatly” by Brené Brown. We were privileged to have award-winning broadcaster Mr. Kafui Dey educate us on the theme “Confidence in Communication.” He shared tips on overcoming stage fright using the STAGE technique: - **S**: Shift your focus - **T**: Train your brain - **A**: Achieve calm - **G**: Get prepared - **E**: Express yourself I hope you use these tips the next time you hold a microphone or step on a stage, I promise it’ll be a success! PROGRAM PROJECTS : Empowering young girls to become socially responsible leaders LEAD is an educational program jointly implemented by An Naw- ras cultural center and the Georges N. Frem Foundation. Its aim is to empower young women (aged 16-18) to become active and responsible citizens. 

On this International Women’s Day, it would be a good idea to re-visit Adrienne Rich’s seminal lecture/essay “Claiming an Education”. Delivered almost half a century ago, it still rings true! And that says something about the world we live in! Sure enough there are many women trailblazers, pioneers and glass-ceiling-smashers around us, but the sad fact is that gender equality and women’s rights are things we still are “aspiring towards.” So, celebrate?  Yes, but remember to put on the largest of your thinking hats and reflect on how you are positioned here. I write this, and you read this – this is indicative of a certain amount of privilege we enjoy. Privilege primarily in terms of education. We teach, research and study. And on this day, it would be most fitting to pause and reflect on what this education means to us and how are we passing it along to narrow the gaping chasms we see around us that limit women from reaching their potential. Read Rich’s lecture; it is a goldmine of invaluable thoughts. Rich’s central tenet: take responsibility for your lives. And here’s a nugget: “Responsibility to yourself means refusing to let others do your thinking, talking, and naming for you; it means learning to respect and use your own brains and instincts; hence, grappling with hard work.” Full lecture: https://lnkd.in/g3EcAu-r
