Biophilia connects us to place and landscape. We also know that place and landscape are both cornerstones of our Indigenous Australian culture. It raises an important question as to whether biophilic design can meaningfully connect the built environment to the world’s oldest living culture. Bunji Place, designed by fjmt Architects, is a community and arts building located in Narre Warren in suburban Melbourne. It explores this question specifically, through the use of many biophilic principles as well as the project's naming after Bunjil the Creator. The architects used a grand woven timber structure, with a sense of flow and movement, as the entry to the building. A generous gesture, enhancing light and a feeling of connectedness to the outside. The natural materiality and its formal reference to a wedge-tailed eagle have a direct relationship with the natural world and our indigenous history. Do you think that biophilia is a tool we can use in design to better tell the stories of our Indigenous history? #AustralianDesign #TheArcAgencyAU #NetworkingEvents #AustralianArchitecture #ArchitectureCommunity

Numerous European-built buildings in Asia, predicated on European-type plans, have distinct references to local architecture. Traditional styles continue today, particularly in housing estates adjacent to super-Modernist environments, such as high-rise suburbs in China. *** International Design Competition*** This is a great initiative by NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure! In addition to the intent of increasing the availability of high quality housing stock, the NSW Housing Pattern Book has the potential for many other positive effects, including: * Responsible use of public funds Stop starting building design from scratch at each site. Savings in construction cost can be re-invested in more sites Mid-rise uses less land space and reduced real estate costs * Utilise benefits of MMC already being developed by Homes NSW Increase local capability in the manufacture of mid-rise buildings using offsite construction. Offsite construction is more efficient than traditional construction on multi-storey buildings due to the inherent standardisation of building layout. * Ability to benchmark quality of construction between similar buildings * Earlier completion of construction compared to current status quo. * Reduced embodied carbon Good design = good value - Good design is an investment. #DfMA #DfMA-D #MMC #OffsiteConstruction #SmartConstruction Systemised Design Group Pty Ltd

Co-existence of Nature and Human Creation... The creation of structures with nature involves harmonizing architecture and the environment. By integrating buildings into their surroundings, we create spaces that respect and enhance the natural landscape. This relationship fosters a sense of place and encourages a deeper connection to the environment, benefiting both the habitant and habitat.

Watching and documenting the transformation of Interlachen Country Club over the past year has been a rewarding challenge. Of all the content we created around the renovation, this series is my favorite. In the Fall of 2022, I got inspiration from a building construction timelapse and wondered if I could accomplish the same thing with our golf course. Over the next 6 months, I tested various software, flight paths, and workflows to make something like this a reality. I did tests for height, speed, and routing based on the layout of the time, but knew I'd need to capture the changes in routing (like the 10th green moving 50 yards). My goal was to fly over each hole once a week during construction, but each week presented a different challenge due to what part of the course was being worked on, heavy winds and smoke from wildfires (thanks Canada), maximizing flight time on each battery, etc. I ended up getting pretty close to one flyover a week but I had to make lots of adjustments along the way. I quickly gave up on the idea that each flight was going to be perfect and learned to chip away at optimizing each hole. I did my best to match everything up and trusted that I could do the rest in post-production. We used the footage in different ways over the summer for general course updates, but as construction started to wrap up I spent a lot of time syncing up all these flights and cutting them down into 1-2 minute videos. From there, Andrew Green crushed the narrations for us! It's not easy to succinctly describe all of the changes that happened in such a short amount of time, but he did a great job and really helped bring the final videos to life. We released the videos to our membership one hole at a time in our weekly Connections email starting in February and here we are a couple of months away from the grand re-opening! I learned so much about video production and golf course construction through this project and watching everything come to life has been such a joy!
Our 5th hole has undergone significant changes over the years. As part of our historic course restoration, it’s been dramatically restored to its original Donald Ross design. Check out the link below to hear course architect Andrew Green walk through each hole and witness the transformation as we approach the re-opening in the coming months! https://lnkd.in/gUBuDRWE

Lighting plays a crucial role in how architecture is perceived and experienced. The lighting conveys or interprets the significance of the space. The subtle glow of lights, creating a calm and peaceful atmosphere, create ambiance, evoke emotions, and influence the overall atmosphere of a space and compliments the architecture. Lighting that doest overwelm the space, another great example of Facade lighting.
