On watch, experience counts. When you’re on watch, the safety of the crew, passengers and the vessel is in your hands. That’s why you must be experienced, appropriately certificated and competent in your ability of using all onboard navigational equipment. A deck watchkeeper must understand their role and responsibilities and be provided with a handover prior to undertaking this important duty. For the safety of everyone onboard, only an appropriately certificated person with the right skills and experience can be in charge of a navigational watch – this is not a new requirement. ⚓ Safety First: Protecting Lives at Sea. As a Life Raft Technician at SEAFLOAT MARINE SERVICES LTD., let me spill the beans on what our daily mission is all about: keeping our seafaring friends safe and sound. Imagine this: life rafts are not just bouncy structures; they're the superhero capes of sailors. And guess what? It's our job to make sure those capes are in good shape, ready for action for emergencies. Every day on the job is like being a guardian of the ocean, armed with a toolkit instead of a sword. We meticulously inspect and satisfy these rafts, making sure they're as tough as a sailor facing a storm. From inflatable chambers to intricate release buttons, we've got it covered! It's not just a profession; it's a commitment to those who earn their livelihood on the ocean waves. We function as the behind-the-scenes crew, ensuring a seamless continuation of the maritime performance. In a realm where safety holds the highest priority, we stand as the uncelebrated heroes in the background. Our dedication sends waves of assurance, quality and constructing a safety shield for our seafaring companions. ⚓🌊 #SeaSafety #LifeRaftTechnician #SeafloatMarine.

The chief mate (first mate), second mate, and third mate are the several ranks of mates. The chief mate, often known as the first officer, is in control of the ship's deck department, which includes the deck crew and cargo. They are responsible for managing environmental protection, safety protocols, cargo operations, and navigation. Mates help in docking, oversee the deck crew, monitor the ship's location, rotate watches with the captain and other officers, and make sure the cargo is stored appropriately. They are essential to preserving the stability and safety of the ship, particularly while transporting dangerous materials. It is necessary to have at least a high school diploma or equivalent and additional training to become a mate. #mate #chiefmate #firstmate #shipdeck #deckdepartment #environmentalprotection #safetyprotocols #cargooperations #navigation #docking #watchrotation #shipstability #maritimesafety #navalarchitecture #marineengineering #marineengineer #sammarine #bunkersurvey #news #onhirebunker #offhirebunker #trustisthebeginning #maritimeindustry

Third Officer in the Merchant Navy | Skilled in Navigation, Safety Management, and Deck Operations | Committed to Maritime Excellence.
THINGS TO LOOK AFTER WHEN JOINING AS A THIRD MATE FOR THE FIRST TIME! 1. Familiarize yourself with the bridge equipment. 2. Get to know the mooring stations and mooring patterns. 3. Take inventory of your LSA (Life-Saving Appliances) and FFA (Fire Fighting Appliances) store. 4. Inspect the lifeboat and rescue boat equipment, checking for expiry dates. 5. Take inventory of flags and signaling items. 6. Conduct a general deck round to assess the condition of LSA and FFA equipment. Ensure they match the plan. 7. Understand the operation of all LSA and FFA equipment thoroughly. 8. Review ship and equipment certificates and note any that will expire during your contract. 9. Check for any LSA and FFA servicing requirements during your contract. 10. Raise requisitions as needed. Additionally, you'll need to manage your time to understand port papers and perform navigational and port watches. This checklist will serve you well every time you join as a third mate.
