We had a 66% drop out rate of female leaders we'd invited to our first Technology Leadership Forum event. We'd worked hard to invite as many amazing female leaders we have built relationships with, but ultimately not hard enough. We're fishing in a small pool and that's the issue. That old saying "actions speak louder than words" 📣 It couldn't be more relevant for tackling the uphill battle that is gender inequity in tech leadership roles. McKinsey & Company released their annual "Women in the Workplace" report in October (link below!). The results?✍🏻 2023 has seen the highest percentage of women in C-Suite roles (28%), we've also seen the largest percentage of female leaders leaving the industry, further stretching the already existing "broken rung". So, what do we do? 🤷🏼 We can start with extending the arm, as Nicola (Nikki) Ironside-Skene put it to me after the TLF. Nikki reminded me that I too am a woman in tech and I have a responsibility to pull women in, and encourage them to keep pulling. We are planning a real value add in 2024, specifically for our women in #test community. So...on that note, I'll be extending my arm, make sure you extend yours too. (be sure to switch or we'll all have one bicep way bigger than the other 💪) #femaleleadership #techleadership #womenintech #genderequity https://lnkd.in/eDhNebFp

Wait- we expect and encourage women to birth, nurture, teach, and raise our future leaders, but not BE a leader themselves? According to a study by McKinsey & Company, women make up only 38% of manager-level positions, 22% of C-suite roles, and just 5% of CEO positions globally. Research by Catalyst, a global nonprofit focused on empowering women in the workplace, suggests that companies with a higher representation of women in leadership positions tend to outperform those with lower representation, with higher financial returns, greater innovation, and improved employee engagement. Despite progress, women still face barriers to career advancement, including unconscious bias, lack of access to networks and mentorship, and structural inequalities in organizations. Why is that? 🙄 #Thursdaythoughts

Promoting gender diversity is not just about equality but also a key driver of success! Research shows that companies with a higher percentage of women in leadership roles exhibit better financial performance, improved governance, and higher employee satisfaction. Gender diversity is a win-win for business! Diverse perspectives fuel innovation and are crucial for tackling complex challenges in our rapidly changing world. A mix of perspectives also leads to better decision-making, reducing groupthink and ensuring a more comprehensive analysis of challenges. Companies that prioritize gender diversity attract and retain top talent, sending a powerful message that the organization values equal opportunities for career growth. Proud of the women leadership team at HP but looking forward to what more we can accomplish! Let's champion diversity and inclusion! When we embrace the strength in our differences, we create a workplace and a world that's not only more equal but also more innovative and successful. Grateful for mentors like Mary Ann Yule who've helped support & guide me through my journey as a woman in leadership! New year, a similar story. Despite the progress made since the start of my career, women continue to be underrepresented in the tech industry, particularly at the leadership level. And I’m not alone. This trend is seen across all sectors with 23% of women making up c-suite leaders in Canada and the U.S. in 2023 according to McKinsey & Company Women in the Workplace report. Lisa Laronde, CPA, Humera Malik, Tabatha Bull, and I recently shared our thoughts for an article in The Globe and Mail with one common theme: change is needed. At HP, I am proud that women account for over 30% of those at the director level and 46% of our board and that half of my Canadian leadership team are women. But there is still a lot of work to do and it requires accountability from everyone. In a world where we are so focused on growth, this is no exception and we cannot remain stagnant or complacent. We all have a role to play – let's make 2024 the year where equity is not just a goal but a fundamental requirement that’s embedded in all that we do. Read the article here: https://lnkd.in/gYsVuTV5
