There are only a few weeks left to submit a project for our 2023 Call for Proposals for Round 4 of our AHRC funded Collaborative Doctoral Partnership (CDP) programme. 📖 Proposals for studentship projects should be made by a university-based researcher in collaboration with a member of staff from Historic England or English Heritage. Submissions must match one of our published CDP Priority Research Areas 2023. Just returned from the Future Industry Forum organized by the German-French Academy for the Industry of the Future (GFA) in Munich. With TUM Senior VP and Prof. Gerhard Kramer, we made the case for the beautiful French-German cooperation model which GFA stands for. The stakes are huge: (1) Helping industry understand and eventually adopt emerging technologies related to e.g. information, communication, cybersecurity, (trustworthy) AI etc.. (2) foster cooperation between French and German research labs in these areas. And last but not least (3) engage with more young student generations to show the impact they can make through science. How many initiatives do we know that bring two partner democracies together to discuss science, tech and education? How many places in the world outside of Europe foster this type of transnational cooperation? Some but not enough... MIDLANDS CONFERENCE IN CRITICAL THOUGHT 2024 Centre for Policy, Citizenship and Society + Department of Social and Political Sciences, Nottingham Trent University April 5th to April 6th, 2024 Call for Papers – deadline December 6th 2023 The Call for Papers Proposals is now open for the 1st annual Midlands Conference in Critical Thought (MCCT), which will be hosted and supported by the Centre for Policy, Citizenship and Society at Nottingham Trent University on April 5th and April 6th 2024. As with the London Conference in Critical Thought, the MCCT is an annual interdisciplinary conference that provides a forum for emergent critical scholarship, broadly construed. The conference is free for all to attend and follows a non-hierarchical model that seeks to foster opportunities for intellectual critical exchanges where all are treated equally regardless of affiliation or seniority. There are no plenaries, and the conference is envisaged as a space for those who share intellectual approaches and interests but who may find themselves at the margins of their academic department or discipline. I feel so proud to be the part of such a wonderful institution as a Recruitment Manager. Nipissing University is the Research Based and Social Science University. Recently, Two research projects led by Nipissing University researchers have secured a total of $491,716 in federal funding from SSHRC and NSERC. Dr. Haibin Zhu will head the project "Social Simulation on Refugee Resettlement and Canada’s Policy Making," using computational methods to address refugee resettlement challenges. Dr. Colin McCarter's project, "Ecohydrological evolution of organic soils," aims to understand how organic wetlands evolve under climate change. The grants will contribute to advancements in societal understanding and environmental protection. 'Relations between academic reputation and innovation networks' by Giuseppe Calignano & Elisabeth Winsents, Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences, in 'Scientometrics' aims to 'assess the importance of academic reputation in determining high-level participation in the most recently concluded European Union Framework Program (i.e., Horizon 2020). By considering three countries (i.e., Italy, Sweden, and the United Kingdom), and using qualitative comparative analysis (QCA), we showed that academic reputation is a key condition among high-scoring universities above a certain threshold (i.e., top 25% organizations)'.
