Did you know it's Privacy Awareness Week (PAW)? 🕵️ Each year, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) holds PAW to highlight the importance of personal information protection and the challenges of today's privacy landscape. This year, the theme is "Power Up Your Privacy," and PAW runs from 6-12 May. The constant evolution of technology, including AI, data analytics, social media, and our reliance on devices demands a proactive approach to privacy – we should all be more aware of how our information is used and protected. That's why looking after your own, your practice's and your clients' privacy practices is crucial. While this was recorded back in late 2023, some of the messages discussed in this episode of #TaxVibe between Robyn Jacobson, CTA, Debra Anderson, ATI, and Corey Cacic are as relevant as ever! Our recording of this podcast was done on 1 February 2024. Anyone following the #EUAIAct will know that the "compromised text" was signed by the Council of Europe on Friday 2 February 2024. What's next before the Act gets signed? ▶ Tuesday 13 Feb - EU Parliament – Votes by Committees on Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committees; and Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committees to take place. ▶ March / April – EU Parliamentary Vote (depending on your reading material but certainly one we're monitoring). ▶ Enters the Official journal and will be applicable 2 years on. Exceptions: 1, prohibited uses of AI which will be applicable from 6 months; and 2, general purpose AI, applicable from 12 months. And the text? With thanks to those who have disclosed the text and consolidated text on this platform, there are also a couple of additional options to consider. These are provided by: 1, Future of Life Institute and the AI Act Explorer https://lnkd.in/gcPKnTu8 (#ADream); and 2, CLaiRK https://lnkd.in/gdp7gbFj Interested in the UK's position? Legislation will come. Note the sentence in the executive summary of the UK's Government response to its white paper: "the challenges posed by AI technologies will ultimately require legislative action in every country once understanding of risk has matured". #AI #AIRegulation #AILegislation #ethics #PurposesOfAI
