I wanted to write something about software development. But then I've noticed that the Braid, Anniversary Edition is out! And it looks awesome! I don't know when I get time to play anything but I've been waiting for this one for some time. Braid is an amazing game created by Jonathan Blow. It's validated and is probably responsible for Indie Gamedev to get to today's levels. But it's also a nifty programming achievement. I had a great conversation the other day that embedded an #analogy in my mind's eye that was simply too good not to share... In 2017 Nike produced the #documentary #Breaking2 (linked) -- the pursuit to break the 2:00:00 threshold in #marathon. As many will recall, #EliudKipchoge put in a time of 2:00:25 on the #F1 circuit in Monza, Italy. 2 years later, Kipchoge would materialize his dream on October 12, 2019 putting down a 1:59:40. So what's the #analogy, you may be asking? The Nike #Breaking2 project was an elite tier effort anchored in tremendous R&D and what came to be the present-day #Vaporfly running shoe (originally the #4%, subsequently the #Next%, and currently in it's 3rd gen iteration as the #Vaporfly) The #ZoomX foam tech now permeates the majority of the Nike running line, even in the entry-level models. Nike materialized this incredible feat (pun-intended?) by leading from the top-down -- they took something out of the reach of 99.99% of their consumer base and conferred the benefits to EVERY present-day Nike running shoe owner. I think about #Athletica in very similar terms. And this is the analogy from the conversation I referenced at the outset. We operate at the epitome of #scientific knowledge and #technical expertise to ultimately democratize what would otherwise be out of reach for the 99% -- that's inspiring -- and well worth running toward 😎 Athletica
