Economic development lies at the center of DDD’s mission and vision statement. As part of this year’s #EconDevWeek, we wish to recognize the work and thought behind our organization’s approach to Economic Development. To realize our long-term vision for a thriving city center, DDD prioritizes six areas to focus upon in partnership with the City of New Orleans, State of Louisiana, and other relevant organizations. This week, we will be sharing these six focus areas—and their associated strategies—with you, starting today with #1 and #2. 1) Business Recruitment, Retention and Expansion: DDD aims to facilitate the development of businesses Downtown through capitalizing on growth in the innovation and entrepreneurship system, developing strong relationships with local office tenants, and catalyzing increase in the retail market by supporting foot traffic and vastation. 2) Built Environment: Our organization seeks to support the cultivation of a thriving real estate development market by coordinating incentives and tax credits to DDD redevelopment sites. We hope to work with the City and development agencies to remove barriers to the production of new uses—specifically housing. Thank you to Cam Good and KEY Marketing for hosting us U40 members at the Leadership Breakfast in your beautiful space! Thank you also to Urban Development Institute for organizing this event. It was wonderful to meet like minded RE professionals at this morning's intimate venue, and always great to hear and learn about Cam's career journey. My personal takeaways: - Figure out what you want to do and really evaluate if you are willing to do what it takes to get there. - Disruption and innovation has its limits, be self aware of where it crosses the line. - Believe in yourself and what you stand for and continue with conviction. People may not understand at first what it is you are trying to achieve but over time and hard work, the results will speak for themselves.

So excited to sit down and talk with Tommy Choi Tommy Choi is the co-founder of Weinberg Choi Residential Team with seventeen years in real estate, the team has sold over 2,000 properties and over 1 billion dollars in sales volume. Weinberg Choi is consistently ranked in the top 10 real estate teams in Chicago, which puts them in the top 1% of the Chicago Association of Realtors' top producers. Tommy is also a well-known speaker on leadership and effective communication. Tommy and I talked about having a teachable spirit and where he learned that. The importance of surrounding yourself with the people who grow with you in your leadership and life, while honoring yourself. Tommy shares an entrepreneurial story of watching his mom own and operate a laundromat, the impact that experience had on him growing up, and how some of that helped shape his current business. Lessons from the laundromat, on fear of follow through, and fear of failure. We talked through how to catch the "rebound" to reset our clock to gain more skills that help build more confidence to try again to score. Learning to ask the questions "Who is the author in your mind and the narrative we are speaking to ourselves on failure?" Jenn shares the encouragement of Tommy's story and how that might impact her children. Tommy explains what it means to be a modern-day real estate professional. How to blend the traditional building client base, with our online digital presence, bring value to our content, and the importance of developing our personal brand. Interesting West Michigan housing market report... "In 2023, home prices have continued to rise in the region reflecting a strong demand for housing together with a low supply of homes for sale. However, high mortgage rates have slowed down the rate of home sales and kept construction activity stable in comparison to 2022. These changes at the local level contrast with national level trends, where home prices have stayed stable and construction activity has dropped. As the national economy continues to avoid a recession, local housing market conditions are likely to stay unchanged in 2024."
