During this year's Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation’s Leadership Exchange (LEX) trip, we visited Charlotte, NC, amid an active hurricane. Despite the challenging conditions, the LEX staff expertly developed multiple contingency plans to ensure the safety and enjoyment of delegates, sponsors, and elected officials. Their ability to navigate a multitude of variables and uncertainties resulted in a truly exceptional and memorable experience. As a group, we engaged in insightful discussions on topics such as the Denver/Charlotte economic comparison, the challenges Charlotte's leaders face with balanced development, economic mobility, educational investments and talent retention, healthcare initiatives, and strategies for repurposing vacant buildings for economic development. We had the opportunity to witness firsthand some of Charlotte’s key strategies and innovations in various areas, including: ~ Circular Economy: Innovation Barn ~ Housing: Renaissance West ~ Innovation District: The Pearl ~ Manufacturing & Distribution: Coca-Cola Consolidated Bottling Plant ~ Newcomer Integration: Charlotte is Home Center I want to extend my gratitude to the staff for their flawless execution under such challenging circumstances. I believe this team and their leadership should serve as a case study for best practices in crisis management and event coordination. If you have the opportunity to participate in a LEX trip, I highly recommend it. You will gain exposure to the latest leadership trends and innovations from another community, which can inspire new initiatives in the Denver metro area. Additionally, it provides an invaluable opportunity to expand your network, connect with influencers and decision-makers across various sectors, and join a prestigious network of Leadership Foundation alumni. Celebrating 6 Years with du Boulay Projects: We had the privilege of celebrating six years of involvement in Duboulay projects alongside some incredible colleagues: David du Boulay Lee Brownlie, and James Lamb. It was a wonderful afternoon filled with reminiscing—revisiting old times, sharing funny stories, reflecting on challenges, and remembering those no longer with us. We dearly missed David Budd, whose absence was keenly felt. He was the reason I was at that table, and our very first conversation, which lasted over three hours, remains a cherished memory. We had so much in common, and that connection laid the foundation for my work with the duBboulay team. It’s been an eventful six years working alongside Lee, David, and David, filled with ups and downs, but also many triumphs. Under Lee's leadership, the team has become stronger than ever, and we’ve accomplished some fantastic projects that we’re all proud of. As we look forward to the future of du Boulay Projects, there’s a sense of pride and excitement among us. Yet, the highlight of the afternoon was always listening to Mr. du Boulay himself, as he shared stories of how things were done back in the day—when integrity was honoured, trust was paramount, and teamwork was the cornerstone of every successful project. For those who’ve been in this industry long enough, do you notice how much things have changed? Is it for the better, or has it been a shock? I have my thoughts on this, but I’ll save them for a future post. For now, I’d love to hear yours! #Leadership #ProjectManagement #ConstructionIndustry #Teamwork #Legacy #IndustryChange

Underperforming teams can cost companies greatly. No one wants to be part of one. We all want an environment that lets us perform to our potential at work. Post-merger, the KELLER Queensland team struggled to find their identity. Despite being foundations & geotechnical specialists, a lack of cohesion showed up in their results. In 2021, with revenues lagging, they turned to Leading Teams Australia for help. Over several years working with expert facilitator Martine Harkin, Keller Queensland turned their performance around. Revenues grew by almost 50%, and in one market they achieved a 95% success rate. Impressively, during a two-year project with over five-million-man hours, there were zero Lost Time Injuries (LTI). Team leader Nigel Brockman credits their success to a commitment to their goals and each other. "𝘞𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘦𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘯𝘰𝘯-𝘫𝘶𝘥𝘨𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺. 𝘐𝘵'𝘴 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘶𝘴. 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥𝘯'𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘫𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘺." The team's success is recognised company wide. Others want to match their performance. Their journey shows that teams aren’t ‘born’ high performing. But given the right environment and tools, they can outperform all expectations. #leadingteamsaustralia #gotheextrayard #highperformance #leadership #culture

Well done to both, for such a special moment.
This week marks a special moment in the ten-year history of the IDA working side by side with its members to keep the desert connected. Outgoing IDA CEO Lindsey Langford, known to many as LL, is passing on the leadership role to Yilka Wongatha Nyoongar woman Sam Murray. The IDA wishes to share its deepest gratitude and biggest respect to LL who has worked so hard for desert rangers for more than a decade. From the first meeting of desert groups in 2014 at the World Parks Congress in Sydney, through to the many collaborations, events, workshops, projects, programs and good times that have been had since, LL has been a guiding hand every step of the way. LL will remain a close friend of the IDA and all rangers into the future, but his departure as CEO leaves an enduring legacy of connection, collaboration, and leadership that all of us can be so proud of. LL says he has "never felt the power of connection between people stronger than in the desert and to have helped build an organisation on this platform has been an incredible experience. To be able to hand over the reigns to Sam Murray, a Yilka Wongatha Nyoongar woman from the desert is an absolute honour." There is so much more to be said and celebrated about LL but there is no better example of LL’s legacy than his commitment to transitioning his role to Sam over the last two years. For five years, Sam has played a vital role at the IDA, supporting people and managing programs. As the IDA's first Indigenous CEO from the desert, Sam takes on the role with passion and focus, dedicated to ensuring that Indigenous rangers are enabled to collaboratively manage the Australian desert and are empowered to realise their aspirations for community, culture, and Country. Sam says she is "so excited and proud to be stepping up into this role. I am committed to supporting my desert mob and rangers to look after their country the way they want." "I want to thank Lindsey for his 10 years of leadership. He has created a great path for me to continue walking on with the IDA Board and team."

You know those moments when the universe seems to whisper, "You're exactly where you need to be"? That was 2024 for me. 💚 When they called my name for Portfolio Manager of the Year at the Emerald Awards, my mom literally had to shake me - and that moment captured everything about this year. It wasn't just an award; it was a testament to the incredible support system that makes success possible. This year taught me that in multifamily housing, our real asset isn't properties - it's people. Highlights that prove this: • Navigating my daughter Harper's third hip surgery while managing my portfolio showed me the true meaning of workplace support. Avenue5 Residential didn't just give me time off - they surrounded me with genuine care. https://lnkd.in/g6_pzytE • Winning the Washington Multi-Family Housing Association's Emerald Award wasn't about me, but about the remarkable teams and clients who make our work meaningful. https://lnkd.in/ghtZeyDX • Being nominated earlier in the year reminded me that recognition comes from consistent dedication, not just singular moments. https://lnkd.in/gi--e9Qe To Tina Boone, and the entire Avenue5 team: your support isn't just professional - it's personal. You've shown me that true leadership is about creating spaces where people can thrive, both at work and in life. Looking ahead to 2025: I'm committed to continuing to build teams and portfolios where people feel genuinely valued, supported, and empowered to do their best work. Because in the end, our greatest infrastructure is human connection. 💚 #Avenue5Residential #EmeraldAwards #MultifamilyHousing #Leadership #LinkedInRewind #Coauthor #2024wrapped

As I climbed to the pinnacle of Mt Wellington, Tasmania's highest peak at 1271 mtrs above mean sea level, I expected to see brilliant vistas below. That was what one was told, would be the normal view on a clear day. But again, surprise, today turned out to be a wet, windy and rainy day. So, instead, I sat amongst the splendor of the cottony clouds, which restricted visibility to just 20 feet. I would need to descend way beneath the clouds before the beauty of Hobart, would reveal itself to me. This reminded me of the similarities we face during our Leadership journies. We often climb the career ladder single mindedly, waiting to reach the pinnacle before we put into action all that we thought and dreamt about. We expect to feel empowered and wise, sitting in the chair of decision making. We expect an exhilarating view of the organisation and our domain from those heights of success. We belabor under the impression that reaching the 'top,' would somehow, automatically imbue us with authority, clarity and information to take the right decisions and make things perfect. Well, things don't always turn out as planned. As one climbs into the seat at the top, one is often surrounded by clouds of 'yes men and women,' who restrict our visibility of the going ons at the ground level. So, whilst we may expect good days and grand views, one needs to be able to climb down, below the clouds ever so often, to keep in touch with ground realities. Living with one's head in the clouds will sooner, rather than later, cause an error in judgement and end up in a consequential career mishap - sometimes, fatal. Who, is keeping you in touch with the ground realities? Who is keeping you real ? “Straight Six Stu” – A True Legend on Site 👷🏼♂️ Every site has its heroes, and for us, one of the most remarkable is Stuart – or as we all affectionately call him, Straight Six Stuart. Stuart has an unmatched record, consistently achieving the highest NHBC mark of 6 on all his stage inspections. It’s not just a nickname; it’s a testament to his incredible knowledge, dedication, and commitment. He sets the bar high, and we’re all the better for it - “Anything Stu doesn’t know, ain’t worth knowing!” 🏆 What really sets Stuart apart is his energy that bounces off the entire site. His positivity when things get tough and sense drive make him a joy to work with. 🫡 Recently, Stuart’s hard work and leadership were rightfully recognised when he was made up to a ‘Black Hat’ by his managers at Roadform. It was a truely awesome moment, made even more memorable as the entire site gathered to give him a well-deserved round of applause. That collective show of appreciation speaks volumes about the impact Stuart has on everyone he works with. 🤝 Stuart, your knowledge and passion inspires me every day. You play a huge role in ensuring our Groundworks are completed to the highest standard, and your contributions don’t just build homes – they build pride in our work. Congratulations mate - the world needs more people like you. Here’s to many more successes ahead - but I will have to make sure I get someone to show him this post today as he doesn’t own (or want) a smart phone Have a great Friday, and in the words of Stu - “but the boys get there in the end, won’t they” . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #ConstructionExcellence #NHBC #barratthomes #davidwilsonhomes #BuildingSuccess #ConstructionLeadership #BlackHatAchievement #LeadershipMatters #Recognition #newbuildhomes #CareerGrowth #DedicatedToExcellence #WorkplaceWins #construction #ProudMoment #ShoutOut #MakingADifference #SiteLife #ConstructionHeroes #ConstructionExcellence #BlackHatAchievement #TeamworkMakesTheDreamWork #Recognition #DedicatedToExcellence #HardWorkPaysOff #ConstructionHeroes
