※POV Summer is almost over. While working from home, that means no more random peek-ins throughout the day (or in the middle of a video call) from one of my three girls to blow me a kiss, or give me a hug, or to pat my head and tell me "You're extra weird but extra special." No more lunchtime quick games of Exploding Kittens or Guess Who. The end of summer also means that with my 16-year-old I'll only have 3 more summers and then she'll be off to college. With my middle kiddo, only 6 more summers. And with the youngest, only 9 more summers. My career is rewarding on many levels. I enjoy the constant challenges and being able to expand my knowledge on many key issues that impact my clients. But nothing beats time at home with the family. And so the purpose of this post is to reflect on life--to reflect on the changes that the end of summer brings--and a reminder to be present. My takeaway: Don't get too caught up in how exhausting (and expensive) summer can be for you as a parent. Think about the things you did during the summer that you'll miss when your kids are gone to college or off on their careers. Reflection. (But then again, the end of summer means college football is just a few weeks away! Go Horns!) #reflection #wfh #career

International Keynote Speaker | Keynote Talk Whisperer | 📚Stop Living on Autopilot | Man Morning Newsletter | Award-Winning Journalist (NBC, MTV Networks, PBS)
College isn’t for everyone. But it changed my life. Here’s how. The dude in the photo (they called me T-Neves) was a first-generation college student. After my freshman year, I went back to my small hometown and worked the 2nd shift at a factory all summer. An internship in Detroit with a major food company came after my sophomore year. The next year, I interned at Walt Disney World in Orlando. After my senior year, I lived and studied abroad in Spain. A master’s degree from an Ivy League school followed. I got the “good job” everyone talks about after graduating in South Florida. After a year, I quit the “good job” and moved to New York City with less than $1,000, with dreams of breaking into the television industry. Almost 3 years later, I had my big break and was on live television every day. My 12-year career in TV included working for major networks like NBC, MTV Networks, and PBS. Today, I’m a global speaker, international bestselling author, coach to men, and creator of the Man Morning Network. None of this would have happened if I didn’t go to college. And what’s wild about this post is that it’s only focused on career stuff. It doesn’t mention the amazing relationships I made, world travels, and life-changing experiences (good and bad) I had all because of college. None of this would have happened (especially the relationships) if I had immediately gotten a job after high school and learned everything off of YouTube or online courses. Making money is great. And ... some of the happiest, most profound times of my life happened when I was broke, “wasting my time” in college. College isn’t for everyone. But it absolutely was for me. PS: I’ve always found it ironic that most of the people who say negative things about college have college degrees. PS 2: My book '50 Things Every College Student Should Know' shares how to get the most out of your college experience from day one on campus.

Five reasons why productive use of the summer break can give a competitive edge to a student's application: Demonstrates Initiative and Commitment: Admissions officers look for applicants who are proactive and driven. Using your summer break productively shows that you're willing to go above and beyond to pursue your interests and goals. Whether you're volunteering, interning, attending a summer program, or working on a personal project, taking initiative during your time off demonstrates your commitment to personal and academic growth. Explores Interests and Builds Skills: Summer break provides an opportunity to explore your interests, passions, and career aspirations outside of the classroom. Whether exploring a new hobby, learning a new skill, or gaining hands-on experience in a field of interest, using your summer break productively allows you to broaden your horizons and develop valuable skills that can enhance your college application and future academic endeavours. Strengthens Your College Application: Colleges and universities value applicants who commit to learning, personal growth, and community involvement. By using your summer break productively, you can strengthen your college application by showcasing your extracurricular activities, achievements, and experiences. Whether you volunteer at a local nonprofit, conduct research, or participate in a leadership program, your summer activities can help you stand out from other applicants. Provides Content for College Essays and Interviews: The experiences and accomplishments you gain during your summer break can provide rich material for college essays, interviews, and personal statements. Reflecting on your summer experiences allows you to highlight your strengths, values, and aspirations in a compelling and authentic way. Maximizes Time and Opportunities: Summer break offers a relatively unstructured period to use to your advantage. By planning ahead and setting goals for your summer break, you can maximize your time and opportunities to make meaningful contributions, gain valuable experiences, and explore new interests. Whether preparing for standardized tests, researching colleges, or pursuing personal passions, using your summer break productively allows you to make the most of your time off and set yourself up for success in the college application process. #summerplanning #studyabroad #personalgrowth #collegecounselling #internationaluniversities

New Student Orientation sessions always fly by quickly, forcing our office (and the two others we planned with) to carefully consider what information we wanted to share, and more importantly, what we wanted students to walk away with.🤔 We decided to open things up by posing the following question - "Why did you decide to come to college?" Of course, answers have varied. But in many cases, the answers given by students highlighted the undeniable link that exists between Career Services and the student college journey.🔗 We'd love to hear from you! If you attended a college or university - why did you decide to? If you work in higher education - what does your summer orientation look like and how do you make the most of your time with students?💭

Summer Break! What does this mean in the education realm? Well it is the end of the school year or coming close to the end. There is a flurry of activities. There are some students frantic to get those grades in to meet requirements for promotion or for graduation. In a typical classroom, the teachers are packing up, administering final examinations, preparing report cards. Overall, there is a community of people- faculty and students waiting to exhale. Students will go off to camp/or enjoy two months of lazy days. Teachers get a chance to practice the essential self care, travel, rest, and rejuvenate. Those last 10 months! Welcome summer break.
