REALISE-ing the potential for offshore wind and Power-to-X sector development Our VP of Engineering, Katherine Dykes, was recently invited to discuss the economics of Power-to-X projects in DTU’s webinar “Bridging Perspectives for Green Hydrogen Ecosystems”. She was joined by José Pedro Blasques, Head of LCoE at Vattenfall, and together they explored the opportunities and risks in developing green hydrogen, and shared insights from our collaboration on the REALISE project. The EUDP-funded REALISE project, a partnership between Vattenfall, DTU - Technical University of Denmark, Energy Cluster Denmark, and Aegir Insights, has developed innovative software for the economic optimization of hybrid power plants, including wind, solar PV, electrical storage, and Power-to-X. Some of the key takeaways from the webinar: 🔹 Flexibility: Profitability in hybrid power plants requires revenue stacking of complex combinations of green electrons, battery storage, hydrogen transport and storage, and more. 🔹 Capital allocation: These projects demand massive investments across a long value chain. Companies must strategically decide ownership and partnerships. 🔹 Risk: Complexity, costs, and coordination challenges translate into significant risks. The sector faces a "chicken-and-egg" dilemma without straightforward solutions. At Aegir Insights, we've been addressing these challenges head-on through the REALISE project. Our software is designed for early-stage valuation of hybrid power plants, including offshore wind and Power-to-X applications. Join us to dive deeper into the full results of the REALISE project at our upcoming in-person event on 27 August 2024: https://lnkd.in/di-sUizJ And to learn more, reach out to us: https://lnkd.in/dVNSPAwD #offshorewind #hydrogen #greenenergy #renewableenergy #hybridpowerplants #AegirInsights #REALISEProject EUDP - Det Energiteknologiske Udviklings- og Demonstrationsprogram

German transmission system operator Amprion has selected NKT to provide high-voltage alternate current (AC) and direct current (DC) onshore power cable systems for the ongoing expansion of the German power grid. With the award of these two specific turnkey projects, NKT will design, manufacture and install the high-voltage power cable systems with voltage levels of 110kV, 380kV AC and 525kV DC. With a combined value of approximately 1.2 billion Euros, this order has taken NKT’s order backlog for high-voltage cables to around 12 billion Euros. With these project awards, Amprion progresses the extension of its high-voltage transmission grid as a key element in the acceleration of the Energiewende, Germany’s long-term strategy for the transition to renewable energy by 2045. 🌞 Project Milestone Achieved: 50 MW Solar Plant Analysis Completed! 🌞 I am thrilled to share that I have successfully completed a comprehensive analysis of the impact and feasibility of a 50 MW solar plant using PSS/E (Power System Simulator for Engineering). This milestone involved several critical studies to ensure the robustness and reliability of the proposed solar plant. 🔍 Key Analyses Performed: Load Flow Study: Assessed the power flow and voltage profiles across the network to ensure optimal performance and integration of the solar plant into the grid. Short Circuit Study: Evaluated the short circuit currents to determine the necessary protection measures and the ability of the network to handle fault conditions effectively. Stability Study: Analyzed the dynamic stability of the power system to ensure that the solar plant can maintain stable operation under various disturbances and contingencies. This comprehensive analysis provides a solid foundation for the successful implementation and integration of the 50 MW solar plant, contributing to a sustainable and greener energy future. A big thank you to everyone who supported and collaborated on this project. Looking forward to more exciting challenges and contributions in the renewable energy sector! National Grid is investing £90 million to expedite the upgrade of an 82km overhead power line from Bramley to Melksham, addressing electricity network bottlenecks in South West England and Wales. The engineering works will commence in January 2024, involving the replacement of conductors with higher-temperature cables across 229 pylons. This upgrade, boosting capacity by approximately 3000MVA, aims to enhance electricity flow between pylons, removing constraints for 175 clean energy projects previously set for connections in 2028 and beyond. National Grid emphasises the project's role in accelerating clean energy connections and ensuring a future-ready grid. #RenewableEnergy #SustainableFuture #solarenergy #solarpower #renewables #renewableenergy #investment #cleanenergy #cleanelectricity #greenenergy #greenpower #innovation #greeneconomy #greenbusiness #greenfuture #decarbonisation #netzero #change #batterystorage #batterytechnology #electricity #gridmodernisation

I am excited to have the opportunity to explore the interdisciplinary research at the intersection of power engineering, AI, and behavior analysis, a new and important field as our energy systems transition from bulk, fossil fuel-based resources to clean distributed energy resources.
#ASUEngineering Assistant Professor Mojdeh Khorsand Hedman received a 2024 National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER award for a project to investigate electricity demand and use the data to predict best practices for managing distributed energy generation resources. As distributed energy resources such as solar panels and wind turbines gain prominence in global efforts to decarbonize the power grid, Khorsand Hedman expects utility companies to adopt the technology and techniques resulting from her work. #electricalengineering #engineeringresearch #careeraward #NSFfunded
