"People are profiting from the destruction of nature, and I'm motivated by the fact that I'm a witness to it. We have caused more damage to the oceans in my lifetime than has ever occurred before." The ocean is not just a breathtaking sight, it's the backbone of our existence. It's what makes Earth unique and provides life as we know it. As we become more aware of the importance of preserving our planet, let's recommit to speaking up for our oceans. Together, we can make a difference and ensure a better future for our planet. In 2014, Sylvia Earle called for action in her TED TALK, and little by little, actions have been taken, particularly during the Ocean Decade. However, SDG Goal 14 remains under-financed, and ocean awareness is still lacking. Let's continue to emphasize the significance of this vast, amazing water mass that covers our planet. https://lnkd.in/endNXNiS Join me in advocating for ocean conservation and sustainability, and let's work towards a more sustainable future for us and our planet. #oceanconservation #sustainability #planetpreservation

Oceans are the lifeblood of our planet - yet only 1% is protected. How to safeguard 30% by 2030: Chile and Palau have signed a United Nations treaty for high seas protection. This major move is the beginning of what will hopefully be a global ‘all hands on deck’ approach. Think about an ocean where marine life thrives without the shadow of overfishing or pollution. That's the future this treaty envisions by setting a framework for establishing marine protected areas and regulating human activities on the high seas. We're currently at a tipping point - and with only 1% of international waters protected, the urgency is more apparent than ever. This treaty marks the beginning of a new chapter and shows what's possible when nations unite for a common cause. It’s time for a revolution in ocean conservation. #oceanprotection #highseas #climatechange #climatetech

"It's time for action". The hard work really does start now and as businesses we have a huge opportunity and responsibility to clean up our act in the same way we need to clean up our seas and rivers. Companies have an important role to play in decarbonising, and shifting to a circular business model will have a huge impact on this transition. If products are produced with circularity front and centre at the design stage, we can break the linear model of extraction, use and disposal. It's no longer enough to say, "we can't afford to be more sustainable" or "we want to but we don't know where to start". You have to start, or get left behind. The choice is ours. #businessactivst #circularbusiness #circulareconomy #sustainability #regenerativebusiness #esg #doughnuteconomics #systemsthinking #tiplebottomline #planetpeopleprofit #climateaction

Celebrate World Reef Day and Take Action to Protect the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary! 🪸🐠🌊 The Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary (FKNMS) is a unique ecosystem, protecting over 3,800 nautical miles of coral reef habitat, turquoise waters, and carbon-sequestering seagrass beds and mangroves. Unfortunately, this national treasure is extremely vulnerable to the compounding impacts of climate change. That’s why managers and leadership at NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration have been working for over a decade to develop new rules and regulations to protect and preserve this significant resource for future generations through the #RestorationBlueprint. North America’s only coral reef tract is in immediate danger and needs bold action to survive. 👏 Sign the petition now to finalize new rules and regulations for FKNMS. https://hubs.la/Q02z0Sdm0 #WorldReefDay #FloridayKeysNMS

#GlobalOceansTreaty #GreenpeaceUSA #GreenpeaceInternational How would you describe the Galapagos Islands? Some would say it is a place of prehistoric beauty. A place where time stands still because you've entered another dimension, where birds have big, bright blue legs and iguanas dive into the ocean for food. Others will say it's a melting pot of extraordinary ocean creatures like fur seals. At Greenpeace USA we have chosen to consider the Galapagos Islands as one of the best examples of ocean protection in the world. This is why we ask you, People of the United States, to please send a message to your Senators now to support the ratification of the World Ocean Treaty, as at least 70 governments, including the United States, signed the Global Ocean Treaty on the very first day it was open for signature in September 2023. This will ensure that at least 30% of the world's oceans can benefit from the same protection conditions that the Galapagos Islands currently benefit from.

Did you know that climate change is not just affecting our skies and lands, but also the coastal and underwater cultural heritage? 🏺🌊 Rising sea level, Land subsidence, sedimentation and coastal Erison are amongst the factors that fundamentally impacted our heritage. But it's not too late! We can take action to protect this underwater cultural heritage, but first we need to understand the factors impacting heritage perfectly! Below is a brief for the factors that is affecting coastal and underwater cultural heritage. Join the movement to safeguard our underwater history. If you're passionate about ocean conservation and captivated by the beauty of coral reefs, you've likely heard about coral bleaching and its devastating impact. But the real question is: how can we actually save corals for future generations? The answer isn’t simple, but it begins with awareness and action. For those who share my fascination with corals, I highly recommend starting with the documentary Chasing Coral—it’s a powerful introduction to the challenges facing these vital ecosystems and an inspiring call to action. This film is just the beginning of what could be a transformative journey in understanding and protecting our oceans. 🌊 #OceanConservation #SaveTheCoral #Sustainability
