🚨 BREAKING 🚨 Our members ClientEarth and BLOOM Association are taking the French government to court over illegal and destructive bottom trawling in the Mediterranean’s Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). Despite the 2006 EU ban on bottom trawling in protected areas, these harmful practices continue. In May, with the support of the Med Sea Alliance , ClientEarth and BLOOM urged the French government to reconsider its laws allowing bottom trawling in these critical habitats, but no action was taken. Now, legal action is underway to ensure that "Protected" truly means protected. 🌍 Read more about the case and the fight to protect the Mediterranean ⬇
BREAKING⚠️We're taking the French government to court to stop destructive, illegal bottom trawling in the Mediterranean. It's about time that EU countries started respecting the European ban on bottom trawling in marine areas that are legally protected. In 2006, the EU banned damaging fishing methods like bottom trawling in Marine Protected Areas with vulnerable habitats. In May, we partnered with BLOOM Association and the Med Sea Alliance and asked the French government to reconsider three national laws that allow bottom trawling where it should be banned.
