"First, we must dispel some old notions that have become truisms but may no longer be valid. A great example can be drawn from the results of our recent GIHF-AI Study 2023, “Trust in the use of health data – a comparison between Germany and Israel.” Many of my colleagues in Germany and Israel were always under the impression that the German public is very conservative and would prefer their health data not to be collected and processed. At the same time, Israelis are considered very liberal regarding data sharing. This was the justification I had heard many times from those who felt Germany was falling behind in digital. To check if it was true, under European Leadership Network (ELNET)'s German Israeli Health Forum for Artificial Intelligence (#GIHFAI), we did a study on a controlled sample of over 2000 citizens from both countries. It turned out our assumptions were wrong: There is a general high level of willingness (82.4% in Germany, 81.4% in Israel) to establish anonymized datasets of patient information for research purposes in both countries, and even higher willingness for using data to inform the doctor’s work. In both countries, only less than 10% are categorically against.", said Ran Balicer in an interview with Artur Olesch in ICT&health. Thes study was conducted by him, Prof. Sylvia Thun, Yiska Weisband, and Dr. Alexander Schachinger #DataSharingIsCaring

EU's 2024 Digital Decade eHealth Indicator Study shows progress in digital health adoption. This is a good moment to stop and reflect. Here are some observations: 1. Private healthcare providers lag in digital connectivity 2. Medical images and devices data remain limited 3. Self-reported data may lead to inconsistencies 4. Focus on technical access, not actual usage 5. Uneven progress across EU Member States For the future, this needs some focus: 1. Incentivize private sector digital health adoption 2. Prioritize medical imaging data accessibility 3. Implement standardized data collection methods 4. Measure impact on healthcare outcomes 5. Support lagging countries with targeted initiatives Digital health advancements can make healthcare more accessible and efficient. What surprises you about the finding in the report? What should be the (medtech or non-medtech) priorities in #healthcare for the next governments in Belgium? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments 👇. With beMedTech, we put forward 𝟯 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀: • faster access to innovation • the need for new care models • better use of health data. All three themes are obviously strongly interconnected. New care models can, for example, help bring innovative medical technologies (and therapies) to patients and caregivers faster. Health data are crucial to support these new care models. Et cetera. 📽 For the past three Fridays, we've been sharing some of our key recommendations for policymakers in our #ElectionFriday video series. (There are two more videos to come leading up to June 9.) Did you miss the series? Strategic Partners' Initiative for Data & Digital Health or SPI-DDH. This is the name of the new programme that WHO Regional Office for Europe launched in June to support and stimulate the digital transformation of healthcare systems in its member states. During the launch, Dr. Hans Kluge, Regional Director for WHO/Europe, perfectly articulated why such a multi-stakeholder programme is crucial. "No single entity can unleash the full potential of #digitalhealth and data. But through the knowledge and understanding cultivated through this platform, we can work together to ensure that the values of equity and human rights are at the core of health systems in a digital era." 💗 The power of collaboration with all stakeholders, both public and private, is what we as a federation also strongly believe in. It is the way to advance our healthcare. That is why we put our shoulders to the wheel every day, sharing our expertise in digital and other medical technologies. The SPI-DDH will focus on four specific themes: 👉 unlocking more capacity and access to healthcare with digitalisation and responsible AI; 👉 leveraging data and digital technologies to bring healthcare and prevention into people's homes; 👉 taking an ecosystem approach to standards and interoperability in healthcare; 👉 strengthening public health with a focus on mental health and the health workforce If you want to learn more about the initiative, read the two-pager from WHO/Europe or check out the website: https://lnkd.in/dGF9WrR9 #healthdata #medtechmatters #medicaltechnology #healthcarepolicy #digitalinhealth #joiningforces Natasha Azzopardi Muscat RIZIV NIHDI

🌍 Exploring the Future of Digital Health: Breaking Barriers and Enhancing Care! Last year, our research team published in Nature Portfolio (NPJ Digital Medicine) a study that focuses on the barriers and facilitators to utilizing digital health technologies by healthcare professionals. It has been one of our most cited articles. This review consolidates data from over 100 studies, identifying infrastructure, technical issues, and increased workload as key challenges. However, training programs and multisector incentives emerged as powerful enablers. Why is this important? Digital technologies have the potential to revolutionize healthcare delivery, improving patient outcomes, and enhancing the efficiency of care providers globally. Yet, there is a need for targeted solutions to overcome barriers, especially in low-income settings, to ensure everyone benefits from this digital transformation. Special thanks to my colleagues Hebatullah M. Abdulazeem, Lenny Vasanthan, Lasse Østengaard, Edson Zangiacomi Martinez, Miriane Lucindo Zucoloto, Tomas Zapata, Natasha Azzopardi Muscat, and David Novillo Ortiz, PhD. 🚀 Let’s push the boundaries of what’s possible in healthcare!
