https://lnkd.in/eBVjQKhF Gwinnett County Approves Infrastructure and Public Safety Upgrades with Major Projects in Motion Gwinnett County is moving forward with significant infrastructure improvements and public safety enhancements following the Board of Commissioners' approval of several projects. A $3.8 million overhaul of Lakeview Road will widen lanes and add sidewalks over Big Haynes Creek, while $1.5 million will be spent on upgrading traffic surveillance and crime investigation tools. Additionally, 40 Flock cameras will be installed for real-time license plate monitoring, and outdated radios will be replaced to improve communication for public safety personnel. These projects, funded through SPLOST and the American Rescue Plan Act, highlight the county’s commitment to a safer and more efficient future.

On what was predicted to be an unpleasant fire weather day, the FireFlight Technologies Pty. Ltd. team was on standby yesterday to provide a fire mapping service to the people of South Australia. As is often the case, the actual weather on the ground was not as nasty as forecast, although at FireFlight's typical operating altitudes the winds were certainly strong enough at 50 knots! With only one small fire, the FFT team took the decision to exercise our capabilities and provide real time maps to those who could use them. Here's an example of what's possible using modern thinking, edge computing, machine learning and an agile team. Shout out to the National Weather Service for keeping us all up to date with expectations and preparation ideas. As a previous resource navigator in multiple roles, I wanted to hop on and share how to find resources if you (or someone you know) need them. There are many options to find resources across Iowa. First, you can use the United Way 211 tool. You can call 211 to speak with an operator, or you can text your zip code to 898211. The 211 operators are often fielding many calls and texts, so please be patient for responses! Another option is to follow your city or town's social media and news accounts. Here in Ames, the City of Ames has posted helpful info about transportation and snow ordinances. The local news have talked about resources to help folks who need shelter and assistance during this time. What other resources do y'all know about or want to recommend? OR-Alert is an effort led by the Oregon Department of Emergency Management to ensure statewide access to receive alerts, warnings, and notifications systems, enabling real-time sharing of hazard information across Oregon’s 36 counties and tribal governments. Communities rely on different forms of emergency communication including social media. Unfortunately, popular social media tools are not a consistently reliable source of information. Over 40 posts sharing emergency alerts were removed from one platform throughout our current wildfire season. OEM's Real-time Assessment and Planning Tool for Oregon also helps increase situational awareness by mapping weather watches and warnings, local storm reports, live weather radar, road closures/delays, and active incidents. Brilliant communications from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service Clear, Informative, timely, impactful and respectful. Achieved without posting a picture from the scene, showing the aftermath and vehicles involved, which which we now understand (through the brilliant work carried out by The Exit Project) adds to the trauma of those involved, and their families and friends. The community level engagement of social media (local groups/forums) means that despite the pixelating of vehicle index numbers, recognition is still immediate and can cause significant stress. I urge all blue light services to consider the impact of such communications and question the value of posting a live picture. In my opinion CFRS have got it spot on here. These feeds are utilized to detect early signs of fires day and night, sending out alerts with crucial situational awareness video feeds to enable swift decision-making by first responders during the initial stages of a fire outbreak.
