On this Juneteenth, we pause to reflect. June 19th commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. Union soldiers arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas on this day in 1865 to announce to the more than 250,000 people still enslaved there that they had been freed two years before. This pivotal moment represents hope, perseverance, and the resilience of the human spirit. Yet, even now, the journey to true equality continues. As individuals and as a company, we have more work to do. At WTE Solutions, we don't claim to have all the answers. But we vow to keep learning, listening, and taking action. To have uncomfortable conversations. To check our blind spots and unconscious biases. To create an environment of belonging for all. The path ahead won't be easy, but nothing worthwhile ever is. We will stumble at times, but resolve to get back up, for the fight against injustice is a marathon, not a sprint. On this Juneteenth, we celebrate how far we've come. But more importantly, we re-commit to the road ahead - striving for a more equitable world, in our minds, policies, and practices. The work continues. But we embrace the journey, together. #Juneteenth #EqualityForAll #SystemicRacism #DEI #KeepGrowing

Really! How is recognizing a particular day out of 365 days, nearly 160 years after the event, cause you to learn and engage with local communities. Learn what and engage how and with whom from these communities????? This statement doesn't seem to have much substance. Please respond with something that will make me have to apologize for pre-judging it. What is the outline of your plan for creating sustainable change??
At Freddie Mac, weโre committed to creating sustainable change for racial equity across our industry. By recognizing Juneteenth โ the oldest known celebration honoring the end of slavery in the United States โ we continue to advance our learning and engagement with local communities.

Founder & Director at Village of Sound Mind | Inclusive Mental Health Therapist | Decolonizer of Wellness Spaces | Advocate, Speaker & Writer
Today I attended the first day of the National Association of Black Social Workers (NASBW) conference. Not only am I excited to attend for the first timeโDr. Sapphire Boone has graciously invited me to co-present on a topic close to my heart: "Reimagining Competence and Exploring Alternative Pathways to Licensure through Policy Advocacy." This presentation is not just a speaking opportunity for me; it's a chance to shine a light on the crucial work done in support of SB871, alongside dedicated advocates. It's a narrative about channeling my rage into productive advocacy, inspired by the trailblazers of the #STOPASWB movement. The National Association of Black Social Workers (NABSW) has historically been a vocal critic of the current licensure process, yet, all too often, their voices are excluded from policy discussions. This presentation is my homage to those pioneers, a reminder to everyone in attendanceโand to the broader Social Work Fieldโthat the voices of black social workers are indispensable, especially in legislative arenas. To say I'm honored is an understatement. This is a moment of humility and prideโa chance to remind us all that standing on the shoulders of giants gives us the vantage point not just to see further, but to speak louder and more effectively. As I prepare for my presentation tomorrow, I am reminded of the power of advocacy, the importance of inclusive dialogue, and the enduring strength of a community united for change. Here's to making every moment count! #NASBW56 #SocialWork #PolicyAdvocacy #ABSW #SocialWorkLicensure #CommunityChange

Today we commemorate #Juneteenth, which marks the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas to announce that the Civil War had ended and that all enslaved people were free โย two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. ย While slavery was abolished, we know that racism and inequalities persist to this day. Juneteenth is a powerful reminder of the struggle for freedom, equality, and human rights.ย ย At WBCSD โ World Business Council for Sustainable Development, we believe businesses have an important role to play inย reducing inequality and generating inclusive growth that can be enjoyed by all.ย Through our work with The Business Commission to Tackle Inequality, we are working to build a more just and equitable world through a shared focus on action, accountability, and ambition. Addressing inequality is both our responsibility and an opportunity for positive change. ย On this Juneteenth, we recommit ourselves to being allies and agents of positive change. We continue striving for a world of dignity, respect, and opportunity for all people, regardless of race. ย Join us in reflecting on our progress and renewing our dedication to justice, anti-racism efforts, and achieving equity. Together, we can create a more sustainable and equitable future where all can thrive.

Juneteenth is a significant day in American History. We are honoring the day by continuing to educate ourselves about the true history of slavery, and the lasting impacts of historic and ongoing systemic racism in our country so that we can continue to effectively advocate for a more equitable, just world. Systemic issues which stemmed from slavery and racism like discrimination within our criminal justice system, employment, education, housing, healthcare, etc., perpetuate inequity and hinder social and economic progress of Black Americans today. At Our Childrenโs Trust we fight for the rights of children and youth to a safe climate, including Black Americans who are disproportionately impacted by the climate crisis. Weโll never stop uplifting their voices. #YouthvGov #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #EnvironmentalRacism #EndSystemicRacism
