Here's a good example of the advertising-as-a-service concept. This spooky season Chipotle is partnering with Spirit Halloween to give people not just what they want, but what they need: a boorito costume! I can imagine the conversation at Chipotle: Q: How might we claim a place in culture during this spooky season? A: What if we help people turn into burritos? Q: Burrito? Why burrito? A: Well, first, people need a costume they love. Second, the mental model is already there: people appreciate dressing up like a burrito (have you seen the interest in tortilla blankets?) Our audiences are fun, yet cozy. It is right up their alley. And! Last year we already tested it online: "Chipotle Fork" bodysuit was a sensation: 700k fan engagement. Tested via brand fans' social media engagements, now it is time to bring it IRL. This is what advertising-as-a-service means: find what problem you can solve in people's lives. Then show up. This is why marketing is so important. 👌 I was walking down Sam's Club when I stopped in my tracks. Why? Cause “on Wednesdays we where pink”. This packaging with the Mean Girls photo hit all the marks — nostalgia, emotions, and the need to rewatch this movie. And you know the best snack for movies? Popcorn 🍿 If you’ve shopped at places like Sam's Club or Costco Wholesale, sometimes the sheer number of goods can be overwhelming. It can be difficult for products to stand out — however, Rob's Backstage Popcorn understood the assignment. ✨ This phenomenon packaging not only made me pause but I ended up grabbing one for myself. No, I wasn’t shopping for popcorn and, honestly, didn’t even want any. But I HAD TO GET IT! So, again, bravo to Rob's Backstage Popcorn packaging department. Just walked past this image on the side of a truck. Is this still the most iconic image in alcohol today? Powerful #brand stories often aren’t literal. They convey an essence. This image has all the undertones - ruggedness, masculinity, sophistication, sex-appeal, and even provenance and craft (as they ride through the highlands of Jalisco). There is no moment of celebration, no one is drinking…they are actually driving! (A big no-no with alcohol). But we hardly notice, entranced in the story. It looks like they rode down from California on Kerouac-esque guys trip and decided to start a tequila company. Meanwhile,if we stop to rationalize, of course we know this is all very staged. In 2017, the brand was sold to Diageo for $1B. I would argue a lot of that success is thanks to this image. #Brands provide powerful subconscious signals to consumers & customers. In 2024, let’s bravely cultivate #brand vibes; let’s strive to show, rather than tell. #branding #creativity #brandidentity

Developing a revamp for a classic sweet shop is a challenge in itself. A staple of the community in the Black Country, Teddy Grays has been selling everything confectionary - from sweets to ice creams - for over 5 generations since 1826 🍬 How do you reflect a modern change in a brand that hasn't looked different in nearly 200 years? Subtlety. Simplicity. Tiny changes that make a huge impact. You don't want to completely re-design the identity. It takes away everything that made it special and disrupts the nostalgic experience of loyal customers. The Sea of "Nice Pop" Sameness Who knows what the strategy is and what the big plan is for Poppi, but the brand seized its opportunity and splashed out the cash to get the chance to put the brand onto the Super Bowl and into American minds. It sold the category- which would be great if it was a category of one, but there are tons of these guys. The counter-argument, of course, is to "own it" and be known as the "one" that leads the space. The trouble is most of these brands are indistinguishable- cute names, similar fonts and color palettes. While Liquid Death's aspirations may lie in other places- you can see just how easy it would be for them to lay waste to multiple soft beverage categories- branching out beyond water into this "nice/good for you" soda space for example.
