We’re always excited to learn new things from our guests during summer camp! In celebration of National Coast Guard Day, one of our schools recently welcomed a special visit from the U.S. Coast Guard. The students had the opportunity to learn about the Coast Guard's important work through engaging stories and discussions. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Coast Guard for their time, inspiration, and dedicated service! #CoastGuard #SummerCamp

Your Beach Access to San Onofre State Park is at Risk – Sign the Petition Now! 👏 San Onofre State Beach is a treasured natural resource for millions of people from across Southern California and beyond. Since 1971, California has leased the 6.5-mile shoreline as a state park from the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton for the sweetheart deal of $1 for the duration of the 50-year lease. That lease will expire on August 31 of this year and must meet new federal regulations that demand fair market value. The Surfrider Foundation appreciates and applauds the past and present leadership of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton and California State Parks for their dedication to preserving this unique stretch of undeveloped coastline and their ongoing commitment to maintaining public access at San Onofre State Beach. While all parties involved in the lease renewal have publicly committed to maintaining public access, a federal statute (10 U.S. Code § 2667) now mandates fair market value for military land leases. This requirement, coupled with federal bureaucracy, could create complications despite the best of intentions. That’s why Surfrider is working with the San Onofre Parks Foundation and local stakeholders to protect the public’s ability to access and enjoy this iconic shoreline, as well as the long-term preservation and natural resilience of San Onofre State Beach. Take action now to ensure that San Onofre State Beach continues to be accessible to all for generations to come. https://hubs.la/Q02vrsww0 #SaveSanO #SurfriderFoundation #TheOceanNeedsMoreFriends

I have been fielding a lot of questions this week all relating to "so what happens when something like this happens?" The establishment of a Unified Command (UC) being run under an Incident Management System (ICS) structure, according to the the National Incident Management System (NIMS) is what happens. Really it means we have the right leadership and the right resources in place to work with multi-agency and multi-jurisdictional partners and a wide variety of stakeholders to bring our strengths and capabilities together to solve the problem as safely, efficiently, and quickly as possible. Coordinated efforts, common objectives, shared resources and support systems. This is what we train for...... So when the time comes, we can step in to our position within the ICS organization and do our part to support the response.

#News 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 🔰 The U.S. Corps of Engineers announced, in a written statement, a tentative timeline for the restoration for safe navigation in and out of the Port of Baltimore. The Port of Baltimore should reopen, with limited access, by the end of April and completely reopen to shipping by the end of May. ▪ The Corps said the channel would support one-way traffic in and out of the Port of Baltimore for barge container service and some roll-on/roll-off vessels that move automobiles and farm equipment to and from the port. USACE expects to open a limited access channel 280 feet wide and 35 feet deep, to the Port of Baltimore by the end of April. ▪ USACE engineers are aiming to reopen the permanent, 700-foot-wide by 50-foot-deep federal navigation Fort McHenry Channel by the end of May, restoring port access to normal capacity. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ current plan is to deepen and widen the ship channel and calls for them to dump 90 million cubic yards of sediment into Mobile Bay. That much sediment is sure to cause real damage to our Bay and those who depend on it to make a living. Mobile Baykeeper — joined by commercial and recreational fishermen — and the Center for Biological Diversity notified the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers today that they intend to file a lawsuit over the Corps’ failure to protect threatened Gulf sturgeon from a massive dredging project in Mobile Bay. “This isn’t just about protecting sturgeon and their ecosystem,” said Cade Kistler of Mobile Baykeeper. “It’s about protecting the Bay and the hard-working people who make a living on the water. Improving water quality and habitat conditions by limiting dredge sediment dumping will enhance fishing and protect important habitats such as seagrass and oysters in Mobile Bay.” The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have plans to deposit 90 million cubic yards of sediment directly into our bay over the next 20 years. A muddier bay spells disaster for our marine life and threatens our way of life. Mobile Bay is losing the remaining habitat that our sea life depends on. This much mud hurts those who depend on a healthy fishery to make a living. Take Action now and write your elected official https://lnkd.in/gFfYCwQG

🚧🛠️ The aftermath of the Baltimore bridge collapse has entered a critical phase. The Unified Command, which includes the U.S. Coast Guard, US Army Corps of Engineers, and other key agencies, is undertaking the challenging task of clearing the debris from the M/V Dali, the cargo ship impacted in the incident. The goal is to access and clear the part of the Francis Scott Key Bridge that collapsed onto the ship. 🔗 Read more about the incident and ongoing efforts at ABC News: https://lnkd.in/eXUs6ErG 🧐 Our Perspective: This should motivate a comprehensive review and enhancement of infrastructure health across the nation. For those of us in logistics, it’s a reminder: our efficiency depends on the strength and reliability of every part of our infrastructure network. This event could be the push we need to shift our focus, prioritizing infrastructure integrity and safety in national logistics planning. #logisticsmanagement #infrastructuresafety #supplychainresilience #baltimorebridgecollapse #industryresponse

Many Marines are struggling to stay cool in their barracks, which often lack air conditioning, leading to low morale, safety concerns, and health issues. The article discusses how the record-breaking heat waves around the world are causing significant problems for Marines living in older barracks without proper cooling systems. Marines have resorted to using personal fans, portable coolers, and even sleeping in their cars to beat the heat. According to interviews with Marines and service documents, the lack of adequate air conditioning in barracks is a major issue affecting morale and wellbeing. One Marine leader stated, "I think there's a big morale crush when you get home... your room is consistently hot." Some Marines have even experienced heat-related illnesses due to the sweltering conditions. The hot barracks are having a negative impact on the lives of young, junior enlisted Marines. One Marine stated, "It definitely affects how I sleep... it's very hard for people who don't live in the barracks to actually care about the barracks because, at the end of the day, they don't experience that trouble." #MarineCorps #Marines #MilitaryLife #Barracks #MoraleIssues #HeatWaves #ClimateChange

Second Fire Project knows the risks campfires bring to society but through good practices and safety, we can prevent wildfires as campers and citizens.
At Second Fire, we wanted to share our concern and condolences to those affected by the Texas Panhandle Wildfires. At Second Fire we enjoy campfires and the warmth the bring but we also understand the inherent danger they pose. We aim to bring education when it comes to campfires and campfire safety. Here is a great resource from the Boy Scouts of America website on campfire safety to prevent wildfires: https://lnkd.in/gWag2aum #firesafety #campfires #secondfireproject #texaswildfire #wildfires #wildfireprevention
