The #HyTecHeat (Hybrid Technologies for sustainable steel reheating) #project is an initiative of the #HorizonEurope program, funded by the European Union (EU) with a budget of about €3.3 million. Its aim is to validate hybrid #heating technologies based on #naturalgas with a progressive increase of #hydrogen up to 100% in downstream #processing. Three Demo cases testing innovative multifuel burners will facilitate the hydrogen #transition of the #steelsector paving the way for the abatement of #Scope1 CO2 #emissions. Achieved results will bring a CO2 #saving in the range of 7.5-25Mt/year at the #EU level. One of the Demo cases #Tenova is participating in is focused on the #systemintegration between hydrogen-ready #burner, #electrolyzer, and #storage systems. Within this scope, the company will install an electrolyzer at its #headquarters in Castellanza (Italy) and test its industrial burner to evaluate the advantages and possible risks to be mitigated, operating in an industrial-scale plant and using up to 100% hydrogen. #Snam will provide the hydrogen #storagesystem and #DeNora the #Dragonfly® system, a latest generation electrolyzer used for the first time in a project of European importance. The comprehensive testing will encompass not only the burners but the entire #production chain, spanning from #greenenergy production to a #photovoltaic system, hydrogen #generation, and #storage, setting the standard for the optimal integration of #industrialfurnaces with on-site electrolyzer, including process control and safety issues. Biovoima’s BIOadapter gas pressure reduction unit to ensure Hycamite’s clean hydrogen and carbon production! Hycamite TCD Technologies is currently constructing a hydrogen production plant in Kokkola, Finland scheduled for completion in autumn 2024. The BIOadapter is needed at the plant's gas reception station. The BIOadapter can be used as a gas pressure reduction unit at the usage site like Hycamite does, but also for injecting biomethane into the gas grid. According to Hycamite's Technology Concept Director, Mathias Ukskoski, the BIOadapter is intended to enable the reception of biomethane from gas transfer containers by reducing the gas pressure during reception, thereby ensuring continuous gas availability and the plant's production reliability. "In our plant, biomethane is used in the production process, where the thermocatalytic decomposition of methane molecules produces clean hydrogen and industrial-quality solid carbon efficiently by breaking down methane using emission-free technology. The end products are clean hydrogen for industrial use and solid, industrial-grade carbon, which can be utilized in various industrial sectors," says Ukskoski. Biovoima’s CEO, Eero Tilsala, sees the BIOadapter solution delivered to Hycamite, as a fascinating example of industrial production that involves the use of renewable energy and biomethane along with efficient innovations.
